Rice vs. UAB (Saturday Game 2)
We might have won 6 of our last 8 games, but our offense is currently in it's worst slump of the season. We didn't win last night; UAB pitchers handed us the game on a silver platter. Last Sunday we were shutout on 3 hits by a pitcher with an ERA over 5.00. And another lousy pitcher has limitted us to 1 run on 4 hits over 6 innings. Unless the opposing team gifts us multiple baserunners we're hopeless at the moment.

It doesn't help that Addison Moss simply didn't have it today. Thankfully, Gayle is pitching well, but down 4-1 in the 7th doesn't look good.

A DiCaprio HR leading off the 7th closes the gap to 2-4 as we head to the top of the 8th inning.

RE: Rice vs. UAB (Saturday Game 2)
Not surprisingly, given it was his longest outing of the year, Gayle hit the wall after retiring the first two batters in the 8th. Walk-single-single scores one. Too bad as up to that point Garrett had gone 4.0 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 BBs, 3 Ks, and had single-handedly kept us in the game.

Why Willy Amador here with two guys still on base?

Willy gets the strikeout to end the threat, but we're again down by 3 with two ABs left. The offense has been in a coma for two weeks now.

Top of the order due up, but they're a collective 1-9 so far today.

Proctor ground out. He's something like 2 for his last 20, and his AVG has plummeted to around .350.
Chandler grounded out.
Cruz ground out.

I hate to say it, but the Fat Lady is exercising her vocal chords.

We must lead the nation in gifting opponents this season a runner in scoring position via a walk followed by a wild pitch. Grrrr.

UPDATE: Fortunately, in the case, no harm done.

Rally time is here, Owls!

Willy hit hard in 9th, but fortunately for us, right at our fielders.

Interesting to note, we have received not a single free pass today (vs. 13 last night), and that's reflected in our lack of scoring.

Dunlap singles to open B9 and is then balked to 2nd. It's a start.

And balked to 3rd.

RBI infield single by Comeaux brings tying run to the plate with no outs.

DiCaprio walk brings winning run to the plate.

And scores on Comeaux's infield single. Hilarious that the pitcher is worried about Dunlap stealing, especially with a 3-run lead.

Failed sac bunt. 1 out runners at 1st and 2nd.

Sarchet pop to 2B. 2 outs.

Gneiting 4-3 ends it. 5-3 final.

DiCaprio walked. Runners on 1B and 2B, no outs.....but Collins fails to get he bunt down, forcing Comeaux at 3B. Yet another story of the season. Total lack of fundamentals.

And UAB is wisely now putting in a LHP to face Sarchet and Gneiting.

Durf.
We do need a win tomorrow to take the series and get back in the top 8 like we were when the day started.

Ball game-- we lose 3-5. A loss tomorrow pretty much ends the season.

Whatever little statistical debate there can be about giving an out in exchange for moving up runners is rendered moot if we can't even execute it.

An exciting B9 ... tying run on base ... winning run at the plate. But ... sigh.

At least it was a beautiful day for outdoor baseball.

I was in the shade in the Roost. Too hot in my seats (plus I needed a beer).

And a win could us right back into the top 8 (*as long as MT doesn’t sweep FAU)

I challenge you to focus on the positive possibilities.

nice choice of picture there, Almadenmike...there were plenty there early and in the roost with about 30-40 former San Jac players and their families...but hey, whatever rocks your boat...are you on the current athletic administration's payroll? :)

Just showed your choice of picture to Wayne...Would you show it to him in person?
