Rice vs UAB- Mark at the Park
First game all year I've been at. So the promotion worked. No score after half an inning thanks to a great play by Cruz.

2-0 UAB after 1 1/2 innings. Canterino not fooling anyone but 2 errors don't help either

RE: Rice vs UAB- Mark at the Park
And in the bottom of the 2nd, Comeaux leads off with a single, and is stranded at 1B. The story of the season-- an woeful inability to move runners and manufacture runs. This team looks like it's play half-asleep tonight rather than fighting for the post-season lives.

Gneiting leadoff single in b3 let's see how this works out. Canterino not getting the slider over but he pitched a 1-2-3 3rd...bases loaded 1 out for Dunlap...hbp makes it 2-1

Now it's 6-2 Rice. I'm shocked UAB doesn't have anyone warning up. I'm guessing their pitcher has thrown at least 40 pitches this inning? Finally they send someone to pen after another walk.

Capitalized on wildness. Gneiting single-Proctor ground out-walk-walk-HBP RBI-double. DiCaprio grounds out. I'm still mystified why Dom continues to bat in the middle of the order. He's like 2 -20 since his return, and has only hit the ball hard a couple times. Proctor's slump is now going on two weeks. I think he has just one or two hits in his last 6 games.

Sarchet walks. Runners on the corners, two outs.
Collins clutch RBI single! 02-13-banana Runners on 1B and 2B, two outs.
Gneiting bats for the second time...RBi single! 02-13-banana Runners on the corners, two outs. Brad 2-2 this inning.
Proctor walked. Bases loaded, two outs. 4 BBs and a HBP this innning, coupled with 3 clutch hits.
Chandler grounded out.

Good guys take a 6-2 lead into the top of the fourth inning.

Even though Tanner is their only quality starting pitcher, they do have three very good relievers-- all with ERAs under 2.50 and BAAs under .210, and a fourth reliever with a 3.24 ERA and .241 BAA....and two of those guys have pitched over 30 innings this year.

Looking at the stats, it's puzzling how UAB's record is what it is. They're hitting .244 as a team (.331 OBP), with little pop, and their staff ERA is 4.40...

Matt still strugggling with his off-speed pitches. Gives up a two-out single, then hits his 2nd batter of game, but escapes unscathed.

New pitcher in for UAB, SR RHP Gonzalez-Montoya (16 app, 24.1 IP, 5.18 ERA, .233 BAA, 15 BBs, 12 HBP, 21 Ks)...
Cruz flied out.
Dunlap grounded out.
Comeaux grounded out.
That was pretty weak.

Good guys lead 6-2 heading to the top of the fifth inning.

RE: Rice vs UAB- Mark at the Park
UAB hitters just sitting on Matt's fastball at this point given his inability to throw his breaking pitches for strikes. Leadoff double, followed by two ground outs, scores one. Rare for Matt to have only 2 Ks over 5 IP, especially against a weak hitting club. Indicative that Matt doesn't have his good stuff today.

New pitcher, RHP Kevin Davis (12 app, 12.2 IP, 1.42 ERA, .122 BAA, 14 BBs, 18 Ks)-- wild thing...
DiCaprio HBP to lead things off. Let's manufacture a run for a change.
Sarchet singles in the gap. Runners on 1B and 2B, no outs. IMO, you've got to bunt here...
Collins flied ou to CF.
Gneitting walked to load the bases, one out. Need Ford to break out here...
Proctor RBI walk! 02-13-banana Bases loaded, one out.
Chandler grounded into double play. Ugh.
Geez, this team has a curse or choke syndrome with the bases loaded and less than two outs.

Good guys take a 7-3 lead into the top of the sixth inning.

We've been gifted 6 walks, 2 HBP and one error so far through 5 innings, and have two RBIs on bases loaded free passes. We've also left 9 runners on base.

RE: Rice vs UAB- Mark at the Park
Matt's best inning so far-- 1-2-3 with two strikeoutsKKKK.

Cruz leadoff walk.
Dunlap struck out on 3 pitches. So much for moving the runner.
Cruz advanced to 2B on wild pitch.
Comeaux hit by pitch, our 10th free pass of the game. Runners on 1B and 2B, one out.
DiCaprio walked to load the bases (without a hit!), one out. Here we go again. Can we get the ball to the OF for once? Third consecutive inning with the bases loaded with less than two outs.
Sarchet grounded into a double play. Freakin unbelievable. This offense is beyond words.

Good guys lead 7-3 heading to the top of the seventh inning.

8 BBs, 3 HBP, 2 wild pitches, 1 error, 7 hits (2 doubles) through 6 innings and only 7 runs scored. That takes genuine effort. 03-banghead

Jefferies in to pitch T7. Walks the 1st batter. E4 on slow hopper puts 2 runners in scoring position.

Sigh!

Sigh!

Trei is and will be a good one, but he makes too many lackadaisical errors on easy grounders.

Kendall with a couple HUGE strikeouts to strand runners on 2B and 3B, and avoid more unearned runs. Whew!

Collins struck out.
Gneitting struck out.
Proctor grounded out. Ford AVG has now dropped from .389 to .360 in just the last 6 games. He needs to snap out of it, and fast.

Good guys lead 7-3 heading to the top of the eighth inning.

RE: Rice vs UAB- Mark at the Park
Kendall again gets two HUGE strikeoutsKKKK after a runner advances to 2B (single, fielders choice that gets no one out) to escape unscathed.

Chandler walked (12th free pass of the night) and stole 2B. No outs.
Cruz batting left-handed HAS to hit it to the right side...but walks (free pass #13). Runners on 1B and 2B, no outs. With Cox now playing for Dunlap (defensive change made two innings ago), he's got to be bunting here with Comeaux up next.
Cox successfully sac bunts runners into scoring position, one out. Well done!
New UAB pitcher, RHP Toe (11 app, 12.1 IP, 1.46 ERA, 1.96 BAA, 10 BBs, 15 Ks)...
Comeaux has to put the ball in play here...flied out to CF. Yes, it was short, but with Chandler on 3B and a 4-run lead, I would have tested his arm.
Chandler scores on wild pitch. 02-13-banana Runner on 3B, two outs. UAB has all but gifted us this game. 13 free passes, 3 wild pitches, 1 error. good gawd. And we only have 8 runs to show for it.
DiCaprio grounded out.
Again, why is Dom batting anything but #8 or #9 in our batting order until he demonstrates he has his swing back?

Good guys take a 8-3 lead heading into the top of the ninth inning.

Kendall starts the ninth by giving up a single and double, and then a wild pitch. Can't we ever win one easily?

Owls win. So we're now 10-13-2 in conference play, and UAB is now 11-14. Technically, we're tied with them in the standings but are we truly tied or does it first go to win-loss percentage?
