As a 2018 grad, I actually know more people going to work in Collin County (myself included) than Dallas or Fort Worth proper.

Some of that might be selection bias, but I don't think there's one centralized location that's perfect for Rice DFW alums.

On another note, I surveyed my college (Lovett)'s 2018 GroupMe on where we were all going to work/continue our education/live in parents basement and I thought some here might be interested in the results... Obviously didn't get a full response, but close to 40%:

Houston: 9
DFW: 6
Austin: 1
Bay Area: 2
LA: 2
NYC: 2
Chicago: 2
Boston: 5
Seattle: 2
Other: 12

Two peas in a pod, just like Houston & College Station.

The "Metroplex" is huge - 11 counties. I live in the metroplex, but the proposed Grapevine site would be an hour to an hour and a half trip for me. Even Arlington would be 45 minutes to an hour.

So what location in Houston would y'all propose for easy access for alums in Galveston, The Woodlands, Cypress, and Wharton? Downtown?

I think separate meetings for FW and Dallas alums is the best.

Closest thing to a centralized location that would work for most is the Airport Hyatt, probably. That only really screws over southeast Dallas and southwest Fort Worth (...which is of course where my alum parents live).

Separate stops is the way to go.

Seems like the Boston-New York area would also be a viable location. There was a large alumni group from that area at the Army game when i attended the game in 2014.

IIRC the largest alumni population goes:

Houston
Dallas/FtW
Silicon Valley/San Fran

Believe this is just including data for people that graduated within the last ten years, but Rice comes in with Houston at 42.6%, DFW at 4.7% and NYC at 4.1%.

Rice campus? Equally inconvenient for all locations you listed except Downtown.

I know several Owl supporters who make that trip during rush hour for Rice events from the far reaches of Katy, Tiki Island and, of course, Tomball.

You're right, of course. Hold the meeting at anydamnplace and watch the attendance soar.

I remember meeting Goldsmith in an Atlanta event. With a nation-wide effort, an expanded caravan is called for. We have a special offering and the alumni can help the recruiting, within the NCAA guidelines, of course.

Happy to drive from Angleton to the Fifth Ward St. Arnold's brewery.
Central Houston location is best if there is just going to be one stop.

I guess we have decided that we can hold the Caravan anywhere and draw good crowds. I propose Rice Stadium. Central location. Maybe we can get a few thousand for the meeting and then some will stay for the game.

Anything is better then St Arnolds unless a microphone is available. The acoustics are terrible at St Arnolds.

If one goes to St Arnolds (or any brewery that matter), why would one ever care about 'acoustics'?

So you can hear the speakers and ask questions without hollering them out.

Patterson Center. I imagine a good many folks still haven’t seen/toured it. If the new uni’s are available have them on display in the locker room. Have mini drink stations throughout the building as folks tour and then gather in the large meeting room for the official talks...audio and videos would be possible. A tent could even be put out on the practice field as a drink station.

Added note...an assistant coach could be placed in each of the major stops when touring the building...giving everyone a chance to meet and talk with them.

Great idea and St Arnolds could sell their beer there
