FOX buys TV stations from Sinclair
http://deadline.com/2018/05/21st-century...202386066/

The deal had long been rumored as “New Fox” (what will remain after most of the company is sold to Disney or Comcast) repositions itself around broadcast TV, sports and local news.

The stations include KCPQ in Seattle; WSFL in Miami; KDVR in Denver; WJW in Cleveland; KTXL in Sacramento; KSWB in San Diego and KSTU in Salt Lake City. After the purchase, Fox Television Stations will reach nearly half of all U.S. households, with presence in 19 of the top 20 DMAs. Many of the markets line up with Fox’s sports rights.

With 173 stations, Sinclair is the largest owner of local TV stations in the United States.

It would be beneficial for streaming purposes, but it could also have a political component. If FOX sticks around for sports broadcasting, particularly college sports, this could have some significant ramifications for moves going forward. But the lineup of stations purchased looks more NBA friendly. This is particularly true if the relationship between FOX and ESPN remains somewhat more cordial.

Owning the Seattle affiliate given FOX Television Stations 14 of the 16 NFC cities. Only Milwaukee, which they once owned and New Orleans, remain outside their ownership.

Yep. It's about owning the NFC television package. And they get to double dip on that package.

Fox and NBC could lose out on a sport. It is being reported that NASCAR is up for being sold. What sports would they replace it with? NBA?

The NASCAR deal runs through 2024. Any sale from the France family would.still adhere to the current contracts, especially since they're not getting more lucrative.

NBA is through 2025, so think harder dude.

Deal isn't done and Comcast has or is expected to make a hostile bid.

And it has zero to do with this station transaction.
