RE: New Entrance Sign/Plantings Off Dorr St
I am remembering a similar discussion on roundabouts way back....

If the City of Toledo did not borrow capital improvement dollars for operations all the time they could locally fund a project to improve Secor without involving Ottawa Hills in any way. Just widen and improve the NB lanes and ban all left turns thru the corridor. Guise it as a waterline replacement. Then you could use the water budget

If you want to use MPO money then limit the project from Central to Kenwood

The interchange will not take away the entire need for improvements of Secor. Just lessen the congestion some. and if you are going to do nothing it should be striped for three lanes

Remove all those dumb advertising billboards from inside The Glass Bowl. Looks like a Double A Baseball Field. I find it hard to believe that those billboards bring in that much revenue. And I agree the UTMC Signage should go too.

I've been saying this for years and I won't stop, those 1970s-looking advertising billboards inside the Glass Bowl need to be replaced by an LED ribbon board stretching the entire length of the east-side upper deck ASAP. It would enhance the stadium atmosphere tremendously, more than you think. And while we're at it, let's replace the old rundown stadium lighting with new modern lighting fixtures.

Stadium should be ready for prime time with camera shots to the Pressbox side.

Bingo. The press box side is always more packed and our press box is massive, it seems only logical to showcase that side on national TV. They should include a media/camera area on the east-side for the next big time GB renovation. But for now...LED ribbon board and new lighting!

03-shhhh Good grief, no. Water rates are going to be going way up as it is. It's just a matter of time until that shoe drops.

Couldn't agree more about putting the onus on Toledo, and according to a couple of discussions I had with county employees that was discussed, but the right of way on Toledo's side of Secor has been almost totally consumed (and what's left wouldn't be enough for an additional lane or extending lanes to safe widths due to the entry grade requirements for the residences already there). The left turn discussion needs to be had though...that alone has been successful in easing congestion and traffic flow on Dorr Street.

I honestly can't think of any, with properties so close to the exit. Inbound to the rotary probably wouldn't be a problem. But out-bound... Would probably take an agreement to put Michigan lefts in for cars coming off the rotary that wanted to double back to the station. You really wouldn't want them turning left in front of traffic trying to entrance the rotary. Kind of defeats the purpose.

I always thought it was quicker/easier to take I75 to I475 to the Douglas Road exit and then South to campus. It is backtracking some though.

There are probably 50 or more homes on the East side of Secor (versus 12) so I can see why the county would prefer to widen to the west, but since the residences egress to Secor on the Toledo side, that's probably the better way to go. I would think limiting access to both Ottawa Hills and Old Orchard from Secor to Central Ave, Kenwood Blvd, and Bancroft St. Would benefit traffic flow too. I know there are two houses on Kenwood/Secor with driveways on Secor that would have to be reconfigured.

If the State of Ohio would actually return the amount of tax money to the cities that they used to, Toledo wouldn't have to raid its Capital Improvements fund.

If they'd opened it up for public input instead of a shove; the solution is not that difficult. The extra land could have been obtained on the west side of the road by the coach who shall not be named. He never seemed to have any problem getting access rights in Ottawa Hills.

(ps: I'm not a city planner, just a helpful contributor).

Most of the donations to UT are restricted by donor to specific need or cause (many fund student scholarship), and what monies-or how much do you think UT gets from TV: hint not much if any at all. UT has frozen tuition 7 years out of last 10 (3 years by their choosing), plus UT currently ranks 9th lowest out of 14 public 4 year colleges in Ohio and has the highest tuition rate in state (85% of all students can some form of discount). While staff and faculty numbers are lower than a decade ago, while all other operating costs go up (utilities, purchases etc...). The UT operating budget allocated to capital improvements is very small ($500,000), so almost every construction project you see on campus is from biannual state capital funds. Until UT gets sustained or growth in enrollment, funds beyond just running the operation will be very limited.

There was extensive public input regarding the west side of Secor, by the Village of Ottawa Hills and residents-hence the opposition to losing 14 properties and lose of property taxes since that is the sole source of income for the Village. And while it might be easy to dismiss the significant of 14 homes property taxes in a Village of a few 100 homes, I know of other recent cases of removal of homes in the Village for conversion to other uses that the Village has opposed-on single specific cases. Not saying I agree but there are good reasons-and huge public opposition to Secor project with the roundabouts. But there are (and will need be) efforts to improve Secor, including without roundabouts, just that the taxpapers of OH and Toledo will have to pay for it-but it will happen as it needs to happen.

Right. I donated money for Savage refurbishing. That money was restricted to use on Savage redo. It could not be used for landscaping the western Bancroft entrance or for replacing doors in Parks Tower or for scholarships for swimmers. Much of the money donated has a specific purpose and can’t be used as the university sees fit.

Renovations of Savage Arena were funded by donors who dedicated money to that specific project-exactly the type of restricted funds that I was referring to (There are also unrestricted funds donated that can be used for any project). But just because the UT Foundation raises $xxxxxxxxxx does not mean it can all go towards campus improvements.

If he's citing the MAC TV revenue as a source of income that can "make campus look like something", he probably doesn't understand the finer points of donor dependency and budgetary restrictions in Higher Education. That's only, what, $400,000/year, which gets eaten up by Candle's contract anyways.

True, but this year’s National Championship dough should cover quite a bit more and we can pay the new coach less than we were paying Candle.

you do know that people graduate and give back to UT,right? you do also know that they get money from being on tv,right? ok....that money....on top of the astronomical amount they charge kids to attend the school.

Until UT gets sustained or growth in enrollment, funds beyond just running the operation will be very limited.

restricted? yea like a college is going to turn down money. just look at savage hall.... "restricted" you say

Renovations of Savage Arena were funded by donors who dedicated money to that specific project-exactly the type of restricted funds that I was referring to (There are also unrestricted funds donated that can be used for any project). But just because the UT Foundation raises $xxxxxxxxxx does not mean it can all go towards campus improvements.

i literally said that in my first post.
