RE: LSU, Cincinnati Granted Permission
From a Tar Heel Blog:

Quote:Early indications were that the Ohio native, ranked 7th among pro-style passers by 247 in the 2015 class, had a list of Nebraska, LSU, Florida, Cincinnati, and Ohio (as he hails from Athens, OH). He has since visited Cincinnati and LSU. Cincinnati, of course, is coached by former Ohio State staffer Luke Fickell, who was instrumental in bringing him to Columbus. LSU is LSU, in perpetual quarterbacking purgatory.

As recently as last night, Burrow was thought to be choosing between the Bearcats and the Tigers, but it appears the Heels are jumping into the mix after all.

There’s a lot to unpack here.

One, Carolina emerged from nowhere to get the visit for Burrow. The Heels’ connections probably helped: #2 overall draft pick Mitch Trubisky, like Burrow, is an Ohio native so Burrow likely knows his story. Antonio Williams, who transferred from Ohio State to UNC last month, was backfield mates with Burrow on the third team in Columbus for two years.

Two, Carolina is the final visit. There hasn’t been any solid information regarding Burrow’s trips to Cincinnati and LSU, so Carolina’s late emergence could indicate that he’s doing his due diligence...or that he came away underwhelmed enough at both institutions to expand his list.

Three, Larry Fedora and staff’s interest may indicate how they feel about the quarterback situation after the spring. Burrow’s presence would effectively end Nathan Elliott’s tenure as an on-field quarterback for the Heels, as both are redshirt juniors. Chazz Surratt would be a senior when Burrow exhausts his eligibility. Unlike the Brandon Harris situation last year, where the Heels were left scrambling after the (let’s call it) unexpected departures of Caleb Henderson and Trubisky, the Heels are not looking for experience behind center— if they’re looking to add a QB, they’re looking for talent.

Assuming the Heels don’t have another crippling injury crisis on their hands this year, quarterback is the biggest question mark heading into the season. Again, unlike Harris, Burrow would not be learning a completely unique system— Ohio State runs a more run-centric, but nonetheless similarly-constructed, version of the spread. It’s based, like Carolina’s, on changing tempo, run-pass option, and quick decisions from the pocket. The inevitable (and unfair) Harris comparison doesn’t hold water, as Harris was stuck in Cam Cameron’s hilariously 1990’s under center, two-tight, power-I/play action offense.

Chapel Hill Joe?

I don't blame him for doing his "due diligence" but at the same time, no one is going to just hand him the starting job. He's going to have to compete and grasp the offense to become the starter wherever he ends up. Of course, he could drop down to the MAC, Fun Belt or CUSA. I agree with Bruce - his fallback is probably Natti but he's checking out a few P5 programs to compare.

Again, I'm not sure how UC, UNC, and LSU constitutes due diligence. I have no idea what the pattern in his thinking is.

The actual tie is all three schools have coaches with a direct relationship with his dad...

That makes sense. Wonder why he hasn't given more thought to OU given the importance his Dad's connections are playing in this.

RE: LSU, Cincinnati Granted Permission
From a OSU blog landof10.

Quote:It looks like there’s a leader to land Joe Burrow as the former Ohio State quarterback goes through the graduate-transfer process.

Burrow visited Cincinnati and LSU last weekend and is “leaning toward” the Bearcats, according to SEC Country’s Sam Spiegelman. Burrow has many more connections to Cincinnati than he does to LSU. Former Ohio State defensive coordinator Luke Fickell is the Bearcats coach and, as an Ohio native, Burrow knows some players on the roster.

The comfort level with Cincinnati was why Burrow was favoring UC over the SEC program, Spiegelman wrote. From his report:

As of Monday, sources on the LSU side told SEC Country that Burrow was leaning toward Cincinnati. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given his relationship with Fickell and playing college football close to home.

A source that spoke with Burrow used the term “nervous” to describe the thought of playing in Baton Rouge. Hence, that’s why I have emphasized Cincinnati as the favorite in this race. Burrow doesn’t have many relationships with current Tigers players, so it would not only be a major football transition, but a social one as well. Meanwhile, he has several connections at Cincinnati, including some staff members and players on the team.

There does appear to be another school in the mix for the highly coveted quarterback. Burrow is in the process of setting up a visit to North Carolina this week, according to HuskerOnline’s Sean Callahan. Burrow, who is eligible in 2018 as a graduate transfer, could make a decision by the end of the week, Callahan said.

Burrow announced his decision to transfer from Ohio State last week. He pushed Dwayne Haskins throughout the spring in the Buckeyes’ quarterback battle, but Burrow decided to leave the program shortly after graduating.

Urban Meyer confirmed Monday that Haskins will enter 2018 as Ohio State’s starting quarterback.

I can't embed the tweet but it's from Callahan today at around 1pm that said the unc trip wasn't set in stone.

They have a really good QB who will be junior this fall. Ohio avg 40 points a game last year.

RE: LSU, Cincinnati Granted Permission
Here's another perspective from a bog article posted a few hours ago with a quote from an Athens sports reporter familiar with Joe...

Quote:Why Joe Burrow’s North Carolina visit shouldn’t come as a surprise

Welcome to Day 7 of As Joe Burrow Turns.

For a week, the graduate transfer quarterback from Ohio State has dominated the LSU headlines. His visit to Baton Rouge last weekend allowed for the proper usage of the word “ballyhooed” — some enterprising fan was even trying to sling “Geaux Jeaux Burreaux” T-shirts online.

Tuesday morning, we learned that Burrow’s search for a new school has expanded to North Carolina, leading us to the Question of the Day.

Is it surprising that Joe Burrow is visiting North Carolina after coming to LSU?

To get some perspective on the issue, I asked someone who has known Burrow for longer than one week.

Jason Arkley covers Ohio University and high school sports for the Athens Messenger. He’s known Joe’s dad, Ohio U defensive coordinator Jimmy Burrow, for 15 years. He interviewed Joe multiple times during Burrow’s days as a high school star. So even though Arkley doesn’t know what Burrow is going to do, he hasn’t been surprised by how the process has played out.

“I didn’t expect Joe to make up his mind right away, and thought anyone citing ‘sources’ that he already picked a spot were way off base,” Arkley wrote in an e-mail response to SEC Country. “Joe has always been thorough, and analytical. He set up his college plan [graduating in three years] before he set foot on OSU’s campus. He’s had a plan from Day 1, and will follow through on it the best way he knows how.”

Burrow wasn’t the type of kid who was ever going to commit on the spot, and thus it should be no surprise that a new candidate has entered the fray after much consideration.

“I never thought Joe would commit to his second school after just one weekend,” Arkley wrote on Monday night. “He’ll want to weigh more options, or see if there are more options, before he makes a choice.”

Indeed, within hours of Arkley sending that message, Burrow’s new option presented itself.

On the surface, the late addition of the Tar Heels to the mix does not bode well for LSU’s chances at landing the quarterback. But with the way Burrow operates, Tigers fans shouldn’t give up all hope just yet.

“He could still end up at LSU,” Arkley wrote. “But only if he believes that’s the best destination for him after careful consideration.”

To Tar Heel Or Not To Tar Heel...That Is The Question

Football Gods,
I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if our team was good or bad. Why we cheered or why we tweeted. All that matters is that the Bearcats stood against the greed of the P5. That's what's important. Underdogs please you, Football Gods.... so grant me one request.

GRANT ME JOE BURROW

And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!

It's gettin' WARMER folks!

Quote:It appears the saga for former Ohio State quarterback Joe Burrow is coming to a close.

Clay Hall, who works for ABC affiliate WSYX in Columbus, Ohio, reported the news on his Twitter account Thursday.

LSU, Cincinnati and North Carolina are all in the mix for him, and he would add an interesting wrinkle to the Tigers quarterback plans. Burrow is a graduate transfer and eligible to play immediately.

As of Monday, sources on the LSU side told SEC Country’s Sam Spiegelman that Burrow was leaning toward Cincinnati. That choice would allow him to stay in his home state and continue to build upon his close relationship with Bearcats coach Luke Fickell.

He has taken visits to all three schools and reportedly is being very measured in his decision.

Yo, Bearcat Joe?!

No idea what our chances are, but feels good to be head to head with LSU for a big time recruit

Yup. Big time credit to CLF to be in the conversation.

It’s unlikely that he is given who the starter is.
