Sounds like Nebraska is a likely landing point with the new coach Frost and the fact that Burrow's father and brothers played previously for the Cornhuskers. Would love it if CLF could pull a rabbit out of a hat and land this kid because he is eligible to play this coming season. I'm not counting on it though.

Not only is he allowed to play next season, he has two seasons of eligibility left.

This would be a situation where having an O$U connection with our coach could be an advantage, but I don't think it's going to be enough now.

While we used to carry clout enough (even as a G5) to possibly swing this guy, I think the Kiel situation perpetrated by coach Andy Griffith ruined any cred we had.

If Burrow were to look at Kentucky, where Gran/Hinshaw are, he might ask that question. But for UC, I doubt that concern even comes up in the conversation.

Exactly. That's who you'd bring that question up to. Not someone at UC who wasn't around when Kiel was.

It's called negative recruiting.

Burrow: "You know, I'm actually considering Cincinnati."

LSU/Florida/Nebraska: "You don't want to go there. Let me tell you what happened to a guy named Gunner Kiel when he went there."

Say Kiel had actually developed here and went on to be a 1st round draft pick, you don't think the current UC staff wouldn't tell a kid that UC can get you to the NFL??? Gunner Kiel got there from here.

...it's all probably a moot point anyway.

I definitely get what you're saying but that could be snuffed out by two sentences from Fickell: "Yea, that was the old staff causing that chaos. When that was happening, I was at Ohio State with you."

Now, if Mark Stoops gave Burrow a call, he should be worried.

Would be amazing to land this kid, let him work off some rust this season, and come out guns blazing in an upset in Columbus next season. The 30 for 30 on that would be incredible.

Agreed.

That was one of the advantages of hiring the O$U guy. He's always going to have a decent shot at getting the O$U runoff, which I would think we would (most of the time) gladly accept here.

With him at QB, you're looking at 8-9 wins next year and competing for the AAC Championship in 2019. Coach Fickell is going to pull out all the stops to try to make this happen.

Lots of moving parts here that could work in UC's favor. We don't really know about Burrow's relationship with Urban. But Urban might well steer him toward UC and away from any other B10 team. Maybe this has been percolating for awhile behind the scenes and was the impetus for some private conversation that led to Trail's decision to transfer out?

Urban's son will play baseball at UC next season. As a former Bearcat football player himself, I think Urban would give UC an assist, especially if Fickell valued Burrows. While it seems unlikely given this player's suitors, so is a headline mentioning UC in the same story as LSU. There may be some fire behind this smoke.

And yes, I agree with those here that this could be a real game changer entering this season.

This is always the wild card when you go up against a top tier P5 school. Does a kid want to perform in front of 35-40K and have no shot at a NC even if you go undefeated, or play in front of 100k, contend for the NC, be on national TV almost every week, and receive $100 handshakes whenever you are short on cash?

If UC was competing against a lower level P5 school like a Purdue, UK, Ole Miss, they might have a better shot. But a top tier like LSU, that might be tough. But, you never know what these kids are thinking or what they are looking for.

Bolded, exactly right. Didn't Gunner's college tour include verbal commitments at IU, LSU and Notre Dame before landing at UC? Who knows how and why some kids make the choices they do but for him to even visit UC may bode well.

Good news. There has been back channel dialogue for a while between him and UC. This rumor has been out there for several months. Would be a massive pickup for the next two seasons, that is for sure. I know LSU is SEC and all but playing for Ed Orgeron? LOL

I wonder if they'd make room for the OSU LB as well if he decided he wanted to transfer to UC? I would imagine they absolutely would.

What some of us were positing back last year when Fickell was hired may actually come true...this would be huge. He is worth a couple of wins IMO.

Best thing about this is that it allows Bryant to RS if he comes over, thus giving us another year of development before he is potentially pressed to action. Now Ridder would be pretty miffed I bet, but he'd still have two years after Burrow is gone.

Agreed. It would finally give us some solid depth and a chance to develop properly. If I'm UC I'm continuing to try and hit the grad transfer market, even if that means back counting a few spots next year. Need to find an OL or and if Booker still decides to transfer you have to take him.

And I hate to say it, but getting an unexpected signing of a potential starting QB just a few months before the season could be a shot in the arm for our fans (and prospective fans) to create a little buzz and sell a few more tickets after a tough four win season.

Seems we could have a good shot.

1. Ohio guy
2. Parents would have an easy trip to home games for 2 years.
3. The Urban/Fickell connextion
4. LSU would be a cultural shock.

Would be great!

He did, but he looked terrible against UC's defense last year in Ann Arbor, so I think this guy could knock him off.

That being said, Chip Kelly has his guy of the future, that is a better fit for his system coming in this summer. I don't think Burrow gets two years of playing at UCLA.

At the other end of that list, unless he has family ties, going to Athens to play in the MAC isn't exactly bright lights, big city. UCF was a bur under the saddle of the P5 this past season with their self-proclaimed national championship. But it did create some positive media attention for the "P6" AAC. Playing in Nippert on national TV is a pretty good gig too.
