And with Navy curving out their chunk nothing more than 5 million at best for the rest of the schools from ESPN.

I disagree. The conference was relegated out of the Power Conference structure well before the Big East name was sold to the basketball schools. In the negotiations with those in power (Autonomy conferences and NY6 contract bowls) it was made clear that the realigned Big East was not going to keep it's upper tier status. Then Notre Dame took it's "associate" membership to the ACC. All that, combined with the poor TV contract offers is what caused Boise State (and San Diego State) to reconsider and stay in the MWC.

After all of that happened, the poor TV contract offers (along with the friction of being in a conference much more focused on football) is also what caused the basketball schools to eventually split off. The selling of the name didn't occur until the details could be negotiated which took another month or two.

I agree. I said at the time we should fight to keep the Big East name. They were a BCS league, deservedly or not. Perception is reality. The country at large would’ve lumped us in with the Power conferences. Most fans recognize the Big East name as a power league.

Rebranding and starting as the American made it much harder imo. Of course I do believe we deserve the Power designation but I believe it would’ve been easier as the Big East football conference.

I think that, in reality, the reverse will happen. There is really no one out there outside of other P6 conference schools (who won't leave their conferences to join ours) that would add additional value. Any additions would water us down.

I think that if there are any stipulations in the deal, they will be that money decreases in the event that schools leave and are replaced.

Totally agree that the this conference should have held on to the Big East name and brand. I also believe that Aresco and the schools that were left behind should have made a last ditch offer to keep the C7 in the same conference. By handing Villanova a FB move to FBS with the only stipulation that the expand their stadium to 15k the minimum required for that level the conference, it would have taken a major leader out of the BB only members who were planning to leave. Nova could then work on their FB stadium issues as they went through the 2 year transition and as they grew their FB program again. The BE could have also offered a small annual FB stipend to G'Town for their program in the Patriot League. With both Nova and G'Town in the fold the remaining schools would have backed down and BB would continue to carry the BE going forward while the conference rebuilt the FB brand and brought Navy in over the same period that Nova transitioned in. On the down side of this ECU probably would have remained a FB only candidate for a while putting the rest of their sports programs in the A-10 and Tulsa probably would have remained in CUSA. 07-coffee3

This is an example of why bad reading comprehension is such a big deal. Also why bad journalism can lead to trouble.

The reporter compared Aresco's salary to the sec commish from 2 years ago. . . While mentioning he isn't getting paid close to what the PAC commish is getting paid this year.

Anyone want to bet that the SEC commish is making less than the PAC's?

Is Aresco's pay more than it should be? Strong possibility. He will need to bring in a major media contract to keep his value.

How you been quo? Glad to see you wiggled your way back in.

Where is this mythical Nova football desire coming from? It seems pretty clear there has been little to no interest in Nova for FBS level football forever. I believe they had the option to cross over several times and declined. Didn't they even agree and then got cold feet?

ND leaving and the Catholics wanting out killed and damaged the Big East name. It was already being beat down through out the media. We would never have got the recognition the name deserves and would have fought the image of the conference imposter. Be thankful Notre Dame went to the ACC because them parking Olympic sports in the New Big East was a no brainier and would have caused huge problems for us.

Nothing mythical about it. Nova applied when the last realignment phase was taking place. Pitt and the schools that were leaving shot them down based partially on the fact that they intended to partner with the 18,000k Soccer Stadium in Chester and help pay for its expansion to around 30k down the road. The schools that had one foot out the door also rejected their proposal along with a contract offer from ESPN to keep damages and fees to a minimum because they knew they were skating out the door in the very near future. Their plans and backdoor dealings to get out were already in place.

ND was out the door and not considered part of the "C7". They were part of the "C8" in the Old Big East balancing the 8 Catholic Institution against the 8 Football schools. 07-coffee3

ND was out the door is not the point of my comment. It was that the timing could have been much worse and we could be looking at ND in the nbe which would be a totally different animal as a result.

Nope. The Big East was a Power conference. As we had to completely reconstitute the conference... we temporarily had to take a seriously reduced payout. Why? Just due to bad luck and timing, we were renegotiating the new deal literally at the same time as reforming... we didn't even have a NAME yet for the conference.

But, we all believed in the new conference, and were serious about the goal of pushing the AAC to be 'included' along with the P5 as a top tier conference (choose your metric). This has always been OUR clearly stated goal... unlike the G4, who seem content to be 'left behind'.

So, knowing we were only down 'temporarily', and that you get what you pay for, we did NOT take a step backwards with our commissioner. If we had, it would have been a serious step backwards in our campaign.

On the field and in the ratings, we have collectively been proven right... Stay tuned to find out what our real value is... as we now negotiate our new deal with no 'interference' from realignment.

I say you don't know what your talking about. 03-lmfao 04-jawdrop 01-wingedeagle I fully supported the Old Big East for years - way before any CUSA team was admitted to the conference as a replacement for institutions that left. Neither Nova or any other C7 school is the "flavor of the month". The country at large would’ve lumped us in with the Power conferences. Most fans recognize the Big East name as a power league.

Rebranding and starting as the American made it much harder imo. Of course I do believe we deserve the Power designation but I believe it would’ve been easier as the Big East football conference.

07-coffee3

07-coffee3

So Villanova offered to upgrade their football and then sabotaged it with the other Catholic 7 because they were already out the door?

ND was out the door is not the point of my comment. It was that the timing could have been much worse and we could be looking at ND in the nbe which would be a totally different animal as a result.

Go back and read the realignment history. Nova didn't sabotage anything. Pitt and other old time BE members shot them down on the FB issue on the way out the door. Nova "didn't sabotage" anything. Nova and the remaining C7 schools left after Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers, L'Ville, and ND left. The C7 wanted to go back to their grass roots BB league after founding members with FB interests left them behind for more lucrative offers. 04-cheers

Try again the collusion of the c7 started before ND left. It wasn't by accident that the football schools were looking for new homes that didn't include basketball only schools stopping common sense moves.

By far the c7 were the major contributor to the obe demise before realignment was a major issue. The c7 didn't want to go back to a basketball centric league. They actively inteferred with the football side to remain the power behind a major conference with out the cost of football.

Now you see why they tried to keep it that way, as a small private school life is tough. The nbe brings few viewers and breaks down to Nova and the dwarves. Again had the c7 managed to persuade ND to enter the fold it would be a viable power conference with viewership and technically a football A5 ranking. That would have been a threat to the AAC's bid to be P6 with the whole conference prestige being flipped. As is with no football the nbe is a flash in the pan who will have trouble maintaining their current ratings and will in short order be raiding Dayton and St. Louis to try and shore up it's next media contract.

Your last paragraph is exactly why I am saying that NOVA should have jumped at an FBS move up after those who rejected their first try - left. Especially since Nova approached the ACC for Olympic Sports only. Nova won't get a sniff of a P5 league with out taking a chance on D1 football again. A hybrid NBE with the remaining C7 and the new FB schools would have kept the BE as a tweener conference with the BE name on TV sets year round with FB, BB, BB, and girls SB. The NBE won't fade off as some predict especially with the Northeast Winter TV Market and the NCAA Tournament, but the conference will only see the limelight during BB and NCAA Tournament Season. Its their loss but it is the road they decided to travel without the headaches of D1 FB. 07-coffee3
