Stanford, Cal, UC Davis, and Pacific currently make up a division of the America East field hockey league. Maybe something like that can happen for lacrosse with those schools and/or Santa Clara, USF, Saint Mary's, Sacramento State, and SJSU.
What would be the odds of Sacramento State and Cal Poly dropping football for men’s lacrosse?

Here is the bracket. The field is pretty open and it will be interesting to see what happens. More upsets or are we closer to chalk?

RE: 2018 Men’s Lacrosse NCAA Bracket
As a DU fan, I know that the Pioneers are thrilled to be in the Big East for lacrosse, as it not only fits the lacrosse recruiting profile and competitive needs of the program, but also offers east coast exposure with like-minded schools for visibility and academic recruiting purposes. Both DU men's and women's lacrosse team have benefitted enormously from the association, and they have certainly helped improve the RPI and recruiting reach of the conference, as well.

While DU coach Tierney wants to see lacrosse grow in the West, that doesn't mean DU wants to be in a western lacrosse conference. As DU has to get on an airplane for 95% of its away games anyway, the travel advantage of going westward simply does not replace the competitive teams of the Big East.

If DU were to ever get an all-sports invitation from the Big East, they would jump in a minute. But the Pioneers mens basketball would need to improve to get there. To do that, DU would need to boost its $3-ish million hoops budget to $6-8 million just to be remotely competitive.

I agree. The non-conference will suffer in any conference affiliation, like Hopkins having to trade out some of its games for Big Ten ones.

Count me as one who also sees B1G-PAC resurfacing, even if downscaled a bit, and including lacrosse. I still believe this one will eventually happen, and with it is the added commitment of games with the respective other in the non-conference. Picturing Denver lax in a PAC with that arrangement, I don't know if that makes things more lucrative. Denver getting UMD or Hopkins would be great...maybe PSU and Rutgers can help, since it's a good territory to be seen. This is a sport with a heavy tradition from Virginia on north...there's only so many games one can play and schedule, and that gets harder to do if you're in a completely different part of the country. IMO, geography and travel is the real reason there isn't lacrosse west of Denver, or the large gap between UD and AFA and the midwest. It won't be cheap fielding lacrosse out on that coast.
