I guess this rates as a participation trophy in cheerleading. I remember my daughter wanted so bad to make her high school dance team that performed at halftime of football games, that she spent endless hours practicing and working hard to get better and how happy she was when she made the dance team. I can't imagine what she would have lost in a life lesson of what hard work brings in rewards in life.

When asked to do away with the new rule, officials threatened to scrap the 10-member squad altogether — telling parents and students that everyone makes the team, or nobody does.

The school claims it wants to make cheerleading more “inclusive” and says it plans to stick by its decision. The local board of education is reportedly reviewing the policy.

Someone has to have the dead last worst team.

What they should do in implement the most complex cheers they can so the ones that don't have the ability will look like idiots while performing. That mom can sit in the crowd and listen to people making fun of her daughter.

I hope she also hears people say things, "See that girl that just fell? She's the one with the idiot mother."

Real story: When I was in Tech School in the AF we had what they called "Ropes." These guys were the leaders of the dorm in which we lived. We had the Red Rope who was the head man and usually the guy that had a close to one year technical school would be one because he'd be there through many months of training. The others were the Yellow Ropes and these people were under the Red Rope authorization.

I wanted to EARN a yellow rope and I tried my best to be the best of the rest with my military bearing. One day the NCOIC comes in and tells us that they're taking applications for people that want to be a yellow ropes without merit. That's when I said, screw this, it's not a merit based promotion anymore but a random choice so I quit trying to be a yellow rope.

There's something nice about earning a position because it instills a prideful emotion. Poor cheerleaders don't have that anymore they have to let in anyone that wants to be one, participation trophy if you will.

Just have a Varsity, JC and C team squads. Then they can work, get better and move up.
