RE: Renaming of MAC Schools
Western Michigan should go as just Western. There is a northwestern university and they get away with it.I think Western University sounds good. Branding Western would be pretty simple too and your logo can just be a gold W.

I do like the idea of UCM (University of Central Michigan) for CMU. Never again would there be any confusion with the other CMU, Carnegie Mellon University.
FIRE UP CHIPS! :)

RE: Renaming of MAC Schools
I was going to suggest that some of these regional universities could be named after a successful alumnus. But looking for someone worthy of Kent State being named for, out of 227,000 graduates, we ain't got no Governors or Senators or no Supreme Court Justices among them. While "Drew Carey University', 'Joe Walsh U', or 'Dolph Ziggler U' might bring in some applicants with their name recognition, they really don't really show a dignified picture for the catalog.
But then thinking further about naming the schools for people, I'm sure that would quickly get usurped by rich donors buying up the names, so I'm now thinking that's a big mistake. We'd just get stuck with names like 'Vanderbilt University', 'Stanford', or 'Duke University'.

Listen - forget the whole 'Oxford University' thing - you'd never get the recognition of the original Oxford University (that one in England). You'd just be considered 'Oxford Jr', or 'The other Oxford University', or even worse, 'Oxford University of Ohio'

But they might get the nicknames confused and end up being called “the Oxvard of the Midwest” or the”the Harvford of the Midwest”

Funny enough Kent is already named after a person William Kent the son of the man for which the city is named after (Marvin Kent in that case). So contrary to common board belief Kent is not actually named after the city it is in though since the two are named from the same family the difference is kind of academic.
Not an alumnus but he did donate a lot of the land the University uses.

This would be something worth looking into for the University. Whenever people hear Miami, they think of the U, except for us MAC folks. That's a huge national brand you're competing with, which is why most people refer to you as Miami OF OHIO. I feel like a switch to Oxford University could be very successful in terms of branding, plus it sounds better.
But doesn't that create another branding problem?

(I suppose you could always be Oxford of Ohio.)

I believe the school in Blue Chips was Western University. You could bring in Nick Nolte and 'Ricky Roe' for some good publicity.

Then the same school for which Benson played in One On One. It is “located” in Los Angeles in both movies, so if WMU goes that route they would at least have Kalamazoo’s glamour factor over the LA version.

Of all the movie coaches, I think G. D. Spradlin in One-on-One, was the evilest. Classic scenes with Robby Benson going one on one with the goon.
But Annette O’Toole could be my tutor anytime...

Yeah, O’Toole was the best part. Can’t stomach dewey-eyed Benson- I was rooting for the football player to hurt him so I wouldn’t have to watch him stare goo-goo eyes at O’Toole.

I don't think it's that serious. The outside world doesn't look at these threads nor care about our alums. People in the sports world who do know of the MAC make fun of our directional Michigan's and rust belt ties. I'm numb to their attempts at hurting my feelings.
