USA Today Ranks 1-130
Was looking at the USA Today Spring rankings and not sure how you feel were they ranked your team but holy crap, Massachusetts #75.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nc...586148002/

Sometimes got redirect to an ad, cleaned up cookies, temp files etc, fixed it.

NIU at #38? Making a bowl would be successful this season with that schedule. I’ll take it.

They’re saying positive things about Pitt being 50 but if things come together I think they could be much better than that

Nice find, Steve1981. I found my way there by going through USAToday.com as linking directly to the page sends you on that advertising path.

RE: USA Today Ranks 1-130
This is from Frank's UMass Blog.

Quote:USA Today ranks college football teams after Spring ball. UMass is #75, which is the highest any source has ranked the Minutemen since the move to FBS. It's probably too high. Our rebuilt front seven on defense would really have to come through. OTOH, the Orlando Sentinel's rank of #120 is too low. The Minutemen offense should roll this year. I would rank the Minutemen in the #95 to #105 range...

These rankings are meaningless of course, but they are nice in that they are the first whiff that college football is coming. Four months away almost, but it's coming.

Interesting that they have NIU #38 and Iowa #35 and hey, guess what, NIU opens at Iowa on Sep 1 this year.

True, but for a UTEP fan the good thing about being picked as the worst in the county is that it is highly unlikely that any team will end up in the exact predicted spot on this list. So UTEP is much more likely not to be the worst in the country this coming season. Also, with a new, fully engaged AD, new FB coach and staff with a new offense and a solid QB recruited to run it, things are looking up. Pretty much the only way UTEP can move this year!

I'm a believer. No where to go but up. A sports friendly admin makes all the difference. I've mentioned it before, but UTEP reminds me of Memphis (fanbase and market penetration). If the Tigers can go from worst to top 25ish in less than a decade, then anything's possible - lol. I'm sure the long suffering fans are hungry for it.

Speaking for a fan base (UMass) who has been previously ranked #130 - starting at #130 and ending up at #123 is not finishing where you started as dead last, but somehow still doesn't feel that great.....

We play one of the toughest schedules in the nation this year.

At 121, I would say that we are way overrated.

I love Pitt’s coach and style of play. It’s no coincidence they have been able to beat big-time teams. Only downside I could see is Notre Dame going after him if Kelly falters. I believe he would satisfy their elders with his gritty defense.

On that note, the official preseason polls should be abolished, as they construct a false ladder berfore a game is even played. Official polls shouldn’t come out until week three, maybe even four. Imagine the pundit speculation those first few weeks!

I have been an advocate of this for years. Official preseason polls are vanity projects by the media, and used only to drive early season viewership.

During the season, like Massey's.

According to Massey Ratings we are #95, with a zero chance of beating Georgia in Athens.
