Huntsville would be a stretch to be considered part of Birmingham

RE: AAF football team announced for Memphis
Media markets without an NFL team. Now Memphis will not include Jonesboro, Jackson or Tupelo so this isn't really precise in determining the regional pull of a franchise. Places like Columbus OH is much more boxes in due to the proximity of other large markets

18 - Orlando
20- Sacremento
21-St. Louis
22-Portland
25-Raleigh Durham
29-San Diego
30-Salt Lake
31-San Antonio
32-Hartford/NewHaven
34- Columbus
39-Austin
43-Grand Rapids
44-Birmingham/Anniston/Tuscaloosa
45-Harrisburg/ Lancaster PA
46-ABQ
47-Norfolk/Newport News
48-Greenville SC
49-Louisville
50-Memphis

I would see San Antonio getting it over Austin. I don't see Texas allowing their stadium for use and the Alamo Dome is sitting there.

Qualcomm is still sitting in San Diego

The dome in St. Louis is good to go.

ABQ has a decent college stadium

Salt Lake- the MLS stadium?

I think they went with the UCF stadium because the Citrus Bowl is hosting the NFL Allstar game thsee days and I'm sure the NFL influenced that.

I've seen Georgia Southern's Turner Field plans to retro fit it to football, it's not half bad.

Legion Field is damn near condemned. Birmingham is behind the 8 Ball. That UAB stadium would be nice right now.

On and on.

I know. I was just brainstorming how it might work as well as or better than Memphis, if it even would.

Alliance of American Football: Valley set to officially join league with conference Friday

The Alliance of American Football is coming to Tempe, as you may have heard, with Arizona’s entry playing at Sun Devil Stadium.

A news conference on Friday in Tempe will also identify the head coach, with names as interesting as Rick Neuheisel and as far-fetched as Todd Graham being tossed around.

Fans will have to wait on team nicknames, however. Those, according to the league, will be announced within a few months.

so far, with five teams announced and three more to go, two of the five are in current NFL markets, albeit warm weather ones

Interesting approach investing so much in name coaches. GP said up to $500k for HC salaries. Coaches may get paid more than players (other than QBs).

The Memphis Tams? Sounds? Showboats? Express? Pharaohs?

I wonder if having spring training overlapping the season helps Phoenix generate attendance interest.

This AAF league will add Salt Lake City, Phoenix and likely San Diego

That leaves one more West and one more East team to make 8

I can easily see those last two coming from your list above

SD is such a great choice. So are they gonna arc back clockwise? Or fill in gaps upon completing whatever negotiations they need to do? If they are arcing north then east, that means TX, which had been long speculated, is out. Or they fill in the gap with Tx, and then somewhere NE like Virginia, Columbus, or somewhere in New England?

Good gosh, not the TAMs please.

All the other re-treads are fine (there's also Chicks and Hound Dawgs), but I'd prefer something original. The Kings is a good concept, but too similar to the hockey team. The Sounds is the Nashville baseball team.

San Antonio or
Sacramento or
Portland in West

Columbus in East

Nashville doesn't have a monopoly on it, and there is Memphis history to the name, as the Grizz have noticed, to considerable success. In support of your point, Kings isn't merely similar to the hockey team, it is identical, to both the hockey and the basketball team. But duplicates are not unheard of, and should not play a major role in the naming, in my opinion.

Kings is great, and appropriate to Memphis -- in Egypt, Kings are Pharaohs (another favorite of mine), and we have history with at least 3 historic/cultural American "kings." It would collectively celebrate them.

My favorite would be Legends, for similar reasons. But, it is a bit too restrained and subdued a description, even more so than Kings, I think for most other people. A great, profoundly dignified logo might overcome that impression, however.

Showboats, Sounds, Rockers, also work for me. I personally do not want a animals or singular or conceptual words like Magic.

Doubt Memphis would pick a name already in use in Nashville. Kings is similar to RiverKings - but not identical.

Re-treads are fine, but no real attachment to any. Showboats and Chicks had some good years and good memories. But all the same, I'd prefer something original. And certainly not something currently in use in north Missippy or Nashville.

I guessed wrong - our longtime WFL and USFL Southern rival is now the 7th of 8 cities to get franchises
