TU players getting illegal benefits?
https://www.kjrh.com/news/local-news/all...ment-at-tu

I saw this on the rivals site to give credit, I don't watch local news really.

This is a nothing burger to me, I also had tickets tossed or waved as well as paying a few. I did get a warning about getting towed once but just paid off the tickets and had no worries. To be honest I think I still owe two tickets, but I don't drive the car any more so good luck lol.

I'd like to hear others thoughts though. Personally I don't for see a NCAA issue over this.

I'd also like to use it as a starting point for a conversation about the local media. It's almost the complete off season and we'll need a few threads to make it to fall camp.

It seems to me that our local coverage has really gone off the rails in some cases. We had generally less coverage in the 1990s but it was also mostly positive. While we're ignored in the Western half of the state I felt we got solid coverage locally on 2, 6, 8 and in the Tulsa Worldat the height of our basketball run and Kragthorpe turning the football program around. Then slowly the coverage depth went down hill. Now we're casually mentioned mostly although it is nice to get that mention even in OKC. Sadly I would say the only time we get covered in depth these days is negative or in OKC never. The city part is meh to me but I really think the lack of coverage locally and the negative slant affect our efforts to build the fan base.

With the rise of social media and the decline of local media investments I'm not sure how we can reverse the trend.

I would like to see more public relations efforts. Maybe cooperate with the driller's on some promotions to try and bring in more casual sports fans. The seasons don't generally overlap so something like mini TU football give aways would help. Or meet the cane type promotions. Hell captain vs Hornsby fight night lol.

I like the universities direct out reach through social media and a lot of the marketing techniques we're finally doing. It would be nice if we could do even more through non-traditional sports media. Appearences on local radio morning shows, doing give aways for tickets by coaches or representatives would be great build up. Hell even offering to have coaches do the promo for call letters on stations would at least get the name out in front of the community. "This is your city's football coach Philip Montgomery and you're listening to wkrp" is a free 10 sec promotion. Obviously it's a message board just curious what others think.
