I agree about not playing FCS teams and that the name Savannah State won't get people going, but you're wrong about UAB's Thursday competition for Thursday. Times haven't been announced yet but there are only 11 games overall, only 4 of those are FBS vs. FBS, and only one of those is supposed to be a decent game according to ESPN FPI (NW @ Purdue). There aren't any alternatives.

There will be a higher than average number of high school football games that night due to it being the first game of the season.

There's probably something good on TV that night, and those sock drawers aren't going to organize themselves.

Blazer fans need to stop griping and making excuses and make sure it won't be an attendance disaster.

I am working to get some youth football teams to attend. I suggest others do something similar.

In my case, my middle daughter will probably have her first high school football game band performance.

If not, I shall be there.

I had every intention of attending the season opener. In order to attend this one on Thursday, I would’ve had to take the full week of vacation and made the trip solo (as there’s no way my wife would be on board to pull my daughter out of the 2nd full week of school).
So, I can’t speak for locals, but I know of 3 people that won’t make the Thurs game (but hopefully I’ll get my tickets used)

For me Thursday works out better. Much more likely for my family to be travelling for youth sports on the weekends. I guess it's just an individual thing.

Also think the students that don't have class Thursday night may be more likely to attend since a lot of them either go home on the weekends or will watch one of the Saturday SEC games. Competition is a real issue for Blazer sports, within the student body and market at large, and acknowledging that with strategic scheduling ain't a bad thing. For example play on the road or on Thursday night the week of the Iron Bowl.

I think we'll have a better than expected crowd for Savannah State.
