Do we know if he committed? HM prospect Zach Crisler, 2019, was on campus for his official visit earlier in the week.

Can't imagine he'll commit this weekend. From what I've seen, he really likes Georgetown, which isn't surprising considering his position and who their coach is. We're at a bit of a disadvantage considering where he's from, too. He's already visited Georgetown at least once and Clemson multiple times.

Clemson is close to home. All good schools.
Any feedback from Crisler’s visit?
Also when are Jonathan Lawrence and Tyler Bertram visiting?

Lawrence visits later in the month. Doesn't look like Bertram has scheduled an official yet and he's already officially visited on St. Joe's and Charlotte.

I'm not sure what the timeline is for Majok Deng, but it'll probably be a longshot to get an official visit from him. Hope we're pounding the academic angle with him, but not sure what difference that'll make when Stanford, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Princeton, Cal, Duke, etc. are still in the running.

Why the hell or we still trying to recruit out of state ? I would concentrate on the state ofTexas at least until we can build a viable program. Otherwise they be transferring out in a year or two.

Eh, I'm not so sure with this group of guys. All of Deng, Wilson, Bertram, and Crisler clearly put a premium on education. I agree that I wish we targeted more Texas kids, but it appears all of the guys listed above would actually value Rice for the education.

Bertram committed to Charlotte. Actually reclassified and will enroll this fall, too.

Charlotte is getting a good one. So I guess our priorities are Wilson, Deng and Crisler now, right? I would like to think at least one will commit soon.

If I were to guess, our 2019 list (i.e. guys we've targeted/are targeting) probably looks roughly like:

C Malcolm Wilson
G Majok Deng
F Zach Crisler
F Jon Lawrence
G Trae Broadnax
G Chase Johnston
G Quincy Olivari

Other guys who could still be targets:

G Anderson Kopp
G Zion Richardson
F Shiloh Robinson
F Max Fiedler

Just posting this here because I don't want to look for a more appropriate thread. It seems odd to see that we are publicizing the fact that Jackson signed an overseas contract. I understand he's a Rice graduate, but he did play his final season at UCSB.

There is such a weird dynamic afoot in college athletics these days.

We always post (Seth and Max are the only pros recently?) when a Rice basketball alum signs a professional contract. Have to make it clear you can play pro ball after college or we’ll never get talent.

I don’t remember one for Egor but he’s playing in Israel.

Almost on cue, 2019 G Quincy Olivari just picked up an offer. I'd be surprised if he doesn't commit to Rice. 6-0 PG out of Georgia with one other offer from Charleston Southern.

I think they post for anyone who graduated from Rice.

Olivari visits Rice officially next week. I'd be surprised, based on nothing but pure speculation, if he doesn't commit while on campus.

Do we know when Malcolm’s official visit is to Clemson? Or when he is expected to make a decision? I saw Georgetown just picked up a commitment from a big for his position. What is the chance that we get him? He would be the 5 and Crisler would be the stretch 4.

He's not taking another visit to Clemson because he's already visited multiple times. Should also add that Wilson would very likely be a redshirt candidate his freshman year, so Gtown getting a big by no means eliminates them.

RE: 2018-2019 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
Malcolm Wilson update...biggest obstacle for us is him not committing on his visit to Gtown. Gotta be tough for a big not to get excited for the opportunity to develop under Patrick Ewing. Also, Gtown fans don't seem particularly sold on him. They're still in the running for a 5* and 4* big, and they see Wilson as very, very raw:

"Ridge View 6-foot-11 big man Malcolm Wilson is taking this weekend off from his official visit travels. He went to Houston to see Rice last weekend and will go to Washington, DC to check out Georgetown next weekend. Those two, along with Clemson, remain the schools under consideration."

“The Rice visit went well,” Wilson said. “I spent a lot of time with the staff and players. Coach (Scott) Pera laid out the plan for me and the program over the next few year. They want to continue developing me as a post player and win games. In their offense, I would fit in doing work in the low post and then eventually move out from under the basket.”

Wilson also liked the look and feel of the campus.

“The school is very nice,” he said. “It’s a small school, which I like. Over the weekend, I was able to see where I would be spending most of my time. I saw the area where they play, the dorms, and spent time in a class.”

And I guess just to compress all of this to one post, Olivari visited Cornell last weekend and visits Rice next weekend.

Not concerning 2019, but looks like we made a trip around Houston today to see:

2020 G JaJa Sanni (Clear Lake)...I assume the younger brother of Ajare Sanni and the son of Jarvis Sanni, who played at Rice
2020 F Nate Martin (Cy Creek)
2020 G Jahari Long (Episcopal)...3* who we've already offered
2020 G D'Avian Houston (Episcopal)
