Live from Fiesta Summit: Pac-12 not considering a partner for its network (ala Big Ten-Fox) for the term of its current deal. Status quo, per Larry Scott.

That may mean they have something else cooking for 2025. Finish out their contracts with FOX / ESPN (a 50/50 lease for each) and then the PAC will have much fewer complications in negotiating with either of them singularly, or with an Amazon or Facebook.
Also related to PAC information they announced today that the conference payout to its member schools for this past year was 30.9 million.

A few weeks ago, the USC AD (Lynn Swann) said the same thing that Scott said today. They'll take the L on the mistakes made when P12N was set up and expect to make a lot more after the first 12 years are done. P12N will be much more valuable to potential buyers after the current contracts with cable operators run out in 2024 because of restrictions in those contracts.

Also, it can be bundled with their Tier I and II contracts.
For example, Fox negotiates a piece of the Pac 12 Network (which probably drops to 2 or 3 sub-networks instead of 6), their Friday night games and half their Tier I & II.

Given the streaming trend, I'd take my chances holding my cards waiting to see what some Silicon Valley Pac-12 grad has on the table for his/her new thing in online content.

There's an interesting balance there between money and access. They're going to want the most possible availability, but they'll also want to take as much money as they can possibly get.
Suppose the "linear" option is for ESPN or Fox to acquire most of the network, give it wider availability than it has now, and pay the Pac-12 half as much per school, going forward, as the Big Ten gets for BTN. Then suppose as a competing offer, Amazon says, "We'll pay you a big premium, and make you the best-paid conference network... but it will only be available to Amazon Prime subscribers." Or if ESPN says, "Because we really want all of this content for ESPN+, we'll pay you as much as we're paying the SEC... but P12N will only be available to ESPN+ subscribers."

The PAC needs the exposure, but it also needs for people to realize the competitive nature of the PAC. Since content will be the revenue producer moving forward having the nation be aware of the quality of some games is essential. So perhaps a little publicity goes a long way in upping the national interest. I would think that streaming would do the least for the PAC in that it hones in on only those who intentionally watch, rather than the football grazer who flips to find what looks the most interesting.
It's why I'm not worried about the SEC's revenue. Our people are going to watch regardless of delivery device.

Nothing is replacing the Ray Bradbury mind numbing Fahrenheit 451 model interactive wall screen TV which tells us what to think and feel. It is the last resort to dealing with the reality of life when booze and dope fail.
God forbid we should read a book and actually think about things when being told how and what to think is so much easier and gets us the approval of likes from the minions we feel we should be connected to.
Handheld devices are merely the nannies that walk us through the day and give us a false sense of security and acceptance. But they don't drone us to sleep with the lullaby of mindless banter like the tube. And to think that the first preconditioning for sleep was the test pattern. How far we have come.

Books are going away. Kindles and on-line reading will replace them, to the extent people are reading those sorts of things.
I like my library (bookcases scattered around the house), but there aren't going to be many of those in the future.

We have them too. The thing is redaction via electronic books is so easily accomplished. Even when working on my Masters I preferred the archives to illustrate just how much even history and and cultural nuance had been altered to achieve a political agenda, and in some cases different translations depending upon the agenda. Electronic media will make revisionism much more widespread.

My 84 year old father uses a Roku. The same person who was content to have 12 channels of cable 40 years ago to not have to learn how to use a cable box. If the local cable company hadn't moved ESPN from channel 6 to channel 20 he probably still be holding out.
Delivery method is really losing importance.

I prefer digital myself but I don't care what form people use as long as authors are fairly compensated enough to keep turning out good books.

RE: No Pac 12 partnership for now
The PAC is starting to build a case for expansion.
What they are saying is that they will make the changes necessary in their network to make it competitive in the marketplace. If they can grow their network and increase payouts, the PAC can keep their own schools happier and help make the PAC an attractive destination for several Big 12 teams.
