As explained there, it’s pretty much along the same lines as why there was no regular season baseball game in Biloxi this year: the payout’s just not worth the effort.

Anybody know for sure who actually owned the game? Did the schools run it as a home & home with the “home” team paying the rent on the Coliseum in Jackson or did they split the cost each year or was there some outside promoter putting it together and paying the schools?

Just because it’s State, losing the game stinks, but I could absolutely see a situation in which we call Starkville and say, “You know, this deal kinda blows,” and them saying, “Yeah, you’re not wrong.”

The "home" team had to take care of everything. Meaning State (2016) or USM (2017) had to bring the basketballs, towels, scoreboard controls, internet, etc. Kind of a hassle, but not so much that we need to back out of the series.

Most schools in our position would kill for a shot at an in-state P5 school on a neutral floor (see WV/Marshall annual game in Charleston that WV backed out of recently).

Sadler knows that he would have a great shot at a win next year in a neutral court, so there are obviously other factors contributing to the cancellation of the series. One of them is that our fans did’t show to support the team financially, and were too busy criticizing the coach...

Not so sure about that great shot to win thought. Eagles should be improved but it is looking like State will have a very good team next year. Guess now we will never know. I agree with those who think dropping this game was not a smart move. Unless, of course, it is being replaced with a better game in Hattiesburg but I'm surely not holding my breath for that.

that's my point....w/o seeing the actuals, it's impossible to logically argue the +/-...

at face value it simply doesn't make sense and smells like my morning dump....

somebody needs to make an official statement with specifics before I comment any further......

as it sits now, it's going to be an RPI killer for us.....

I want to know who/what/where the replacement game is going to be and the specifics of the previous contract.....
