Just for comparison, 247 Sports has him as a 3 star with score of .8868. The hogs Desi Sills point guard signee is also a 3 star with a point score of .8819. Not a whole lot of difference there.

Markquis' offer list is pretty impressive with schools from the Big East, Pac 10, and several from the A10 represented. Hopefully, eligibility is not an issue, since sometimes this is the reason big name schools back off.

247 list Markquis as the 46 best point guard in the country, although at another part of their site they list him as 37th best.

Hey, at our level getting a Top 50 point is a huge deal.

I think grades as well, but then I remember he’s shorter than me, and I bet that’s just as likely why so many schools backed off.

I may be wrong but it seems to me by the time they get to signing process the grades have been vetted.

In January he had surgery that sidelined him for 3 or 4 weeks. Maybe that slowed down his recruiting. http://highschoolsports.nj.com/news/arti...tar-guard/

From the Georgetown message board back in February
“Are you kidding me? I love this kid. He's exactly what we need at the point. He has an excellent handle, he can finish despite his size, he can shoot, break a defense down by himself, great passer, creates space and a shot for himself in one on one, plays defense, and can create easy baskets for others. He's exactly what we DON'T have and really need.

Please sign this kid!!!”

I'm sure he'll be fine. I just remember, a couple of times, where we signed players who were pretty highly regarded, with the hope that they would make their test score or pass a summer school class to get eligible. It certainly was worth the "risk" for us after bigger programs backed off. I have no reason to believe that this is the case with this player. I'm just not used to us signing players that were offered by some pretty big name schools. Hopefully, this will continue under Darrell's leadership.

ESPN has him as the #82 PG in the country, and the #22 player in the state of New York. Given how many great HS players there are in NYC alone in any given year, that is saying something. But they list him as 5-7.

I really like Lottie and Pippins has grown on me. But, they are going to have their work cut out keeping Markquis out of the starting line-up.

Pippins ended up shooting 42.6% from the arc. Let him play the 2.

According to 247 Sports national point guard rankings:

# 37 Markquis Nowell
St. Patrick (Elizabeth, NJ)

# 42 Desi Sills
Jonesboro, Arkansas

I have no problem with the hogs getting the top point guard, in the state, if we can go to NY and get a better one.

Can’t wait to see what Pippins does with some actual coaching.

We will see, but he certainly seems like he might be one!

I see Pips minutes going down, not up. He is listed at 6-0, 250 lbs. Stienbromm is 6-11 260.

Not sure where I stand on that, although I tend to agree with you since we will have several talented guards who didn't play last season.. Still he really grew on me as a player over the course of last season.

That is hard to guess, since we will have so many new faces, and also a redshirt coming back active. Who wants it the most?
