Semi-related but it sounds like Liberty is moving the rest of their sports to the Atlantic Sun, possibly as soon as next season.

What's the new capacity???

25,000 seats. Probably room for a another 5,000. The berm is available for GA.

What's the capacity on the new bball arena?

2,500 chair backs

Seems like the right capacity for the ASun. Should make for a better atmosphere too, since it'll be packed every game.

My guess is 1000 to 1500 per game. When the team's on a roll, maybe more. Girl's softball is rolling this year.

Sorry, I thought you were asking about baseball. New basketball arena will be around 4,500. The old Vines center will still be available big games when the attendance is expected to be closer to 8,000 or 9,000.

You'd be a good fit for CUSA, where some schools hear "bball" and think baseball, if their basketball arenas and records are any indication.

I was going to question whether having a 4,000-seat arena meant you'd end up splitting your home games between the two and leading to a dampening of home-court advantage, but since you guys rarely top 4,000 outside of season openers, I'm guessing it won't be an issue. Is the new place expandable if Liberty gets really good and/or joins a much better conference, or would the eye be toward renovating Vines at that point?

I read that they spend a ton of time at Vines setting it up for athletic events and switching back to be set up for weekly convocation. So, this will help them avoid that time suck. They also mentioned better atmosphere since they won't be playing in a mostly empty arena any longer. From the sounds of it, Vines will be seldomly used for athletics once it is built.

That's correct. And the two will be connected.

Yeah, that makes sense. They use their arena differently than most schools, I'd wager.

Which would be good for hosting conference tournaments, though the ASun has been at campus sites the past few years.

Most impressive - I’m sure it will be an electric atmosphere (even sans pregame adult beverages). Hoping we deliver the L but have no doubt the Flames are going to be ready to play. Will be a great test for Wilder and staff to have our Monarchs ready to play in a hostile environment in a game we should win.

I hope this game becomes a series - the Flames always show up to play.

Last meeting was a nail biter! The only way this one could be better is if it has a different out come. 04-clap2 I look for these in state clashes between ODU Liberty UVA and Va Tech to get bigger and better each season.

Same here - hopefully we get out of the blocks fast or we’re going to be in for a dog fight. The Flames have always shown up to play against the Monarchs. This definitely needs to be a home and home series going forward.

Hard to believe there are already odds on this game. ODU favored by 6.

Anyone know date fall practice starts? Usually around 8/7 but not sure of exact date.

I've looked all over the schools web site, no luck. It may be hidden in plain sight, but I don't see it.

Line opened up a while back, not sure when. Opened up as ODU -2, so it's pretty clear a lot of people have their bets on ODU for the line to move as much as it has. It will probably move a bit more before game day.

Speaking of betting, ODU is currently 35/1 odds for winning CUSA in most places.

Since 29 practices are authorized, you would have to assume that next weekend might begin the process since I'm sure they will not practice every day. 41 days before the Liberty game so the start of practice should be soon.

Thanks for the info. It feels like we should be favored by more than a touchdown - especially given the strength of our D-line. It’s going to be a long season if we lose this game.

I don’t have an issue with the betting line. I do agree that if we lose the game we could be in for a long season. The back half is very tough, so I would hope we can start out 3-1, and really would love to start out 4-1 to set up a good season.
