This makes too much sense for them to do it, lol.

I don't like it. College players are around long enough as is. Allowing players to hang around for a potential 6th year is taking a scholarship away from someone trying hard to earn one. And, this will put a premium on good transfer players, or maybe I should frame it as: Teams will be more likely to entice a player to transfer to their school if said player would have 3 or even 4 years left to play after they had a good tryout at a lower division or a school in a lesser conference.

Yep that’s the biggest part of it for me.

The only addendum I'd add is a GPA requirement. I'd say 3.0, but some might call that harsh.

The problem with a GPA requirement is that the curriculum in some university colleges is tougher than that in others. When Bama tried tying GPA to the color code of parking decals, the Engineering students were upset that Education majors and such would get all the "good" decals and they would get the "bad" ones. This inherent inequity of course difficulty may make such a GPA requirement difficult to work out.

We still need more information though. What were the good colors, and what were the bad colors? I cannot move on until these things are known.

I did not realize there was so much (petulant) interest in Bama's 1962 parking decals but since you asked, red decals (higher GPA) allowed central campus parking while white decals (lower GPA) were alloted the more distant fringe area parking. The compromise reached was to put a lot of the white decal spaces in the Engineering school areas. I hope this information allows you both to move on with your day.
Now perhaps we can discuss the POINT of the example which was the problems involved in using GPA to make sweeping decisions about whole campus policies - like transfers - based on GPA.

Thus taking more valuable study time from those that obviously need it most. This must have been the same people that tax the groceries of poor folks that same as those rich basterds.

Thank you BNB for your insight. I was not aware of that example, but as an Engineer I would also hate to be compared to a social science GPA.
I'm not sure how many athletes are getting science and engineering degrees, but maybe a compromise could be reached? Perhaps scale the GPA for the transfer bonus year based on average SAT scores for students in their major? GRE has too much variance for who takes it, but almost everyone takes the ACT or SAT. If it's hard to get into the major, then a lower GPA could be acceptable.
