RE: 2018 CFL Megathread
Pretty miffed about how many early season games are only available on ESPN+. I refuse to be triple dipped for Fuhrer Mickey.

Johnny Football to the Hamilton Tigercats.
I guess that makes whoever is playing the Tigercats my favorite CFL team. All kidding aside, I hope he gets his life back on track and stays sober and on the right side of the law.
I haven't watched a lot of the CFL but I'm curious as to what American fans thought of the bigger field and different rules.

I don't like having 3 downs. It turns everybody into the air raid. I do like having limited motion pre-snap. I do like the rouge. I do like the no yards penalty. I don't like the goalposts in the field. I don't like the extra width of the field, much of which goes unused (you wanna pass it 30 yards wide and see if it gets picked?).

RE: 2018 CFL Megathread
Early thoughts:
- Montreal looks terrible
- BC isn't much better, and this won't be a pleasant retirement tour for their coach
- Calgary is still highly flawed
- The western teams not named BC still look like the teams to beat
- Hamilton may be for real with Masoli at QB. Manziel may never see the field.

RE: 2018 CFL Megathread
Back over 20 years ago in the mid 90's, Memphis had a CFL team for one season, the Mad Dogs. The CFL planted several American franchises that year hoping to expand the brand. Baltimore, Birmingham, Shreveport, San Antonio, Las Vegas are the ones I can remember. The CFL endzones are so big, 20 years deep instead of 10, they had to cut corners to get them to fit in the Memphis Liberty Bowl. It was kind of hokey and only lasted a year. We did have Damon Allen, Marcus Allen's brother, as quarterback. He was outstanding and went on to a long, recordsetting career in the CFL.

Seems like an offense's best use of the wider field would be run-pass option plays. Rather than making long lateral throws, get fast skill players to the outside so they can run into all that space.

RE: 2018 CFL Megathread
Interesting unis by the Eskimos there. I can see why Canadians call them pickle unis. Does Toronto have some agreement with the CFL that they always have the best passing QB in the league? Ancient hall of famer Ricky Ray goes down, no problem, here's a random former Missouri QB. James Franklin doesn't have a lot to work with, but he's certainly just visibly a better passer than most in the CFL.

I wonder how bad that bloated US expansion from the early-mid 90s burned the CFL on doing expansion period. I mean the Ottowa(?) Red Blacks were the first expansion team to have come into being after that time frame. Do they have the demand to add more teams. I would think they would like to be at least up to a max of 16 to make the league viable but I don't know if they can get 16 Canadian cities running franchises.
