False alarm, it was just a Gameday book.

This morning I noticed/seen the ODU vs VT billboard off 64 before the Northampton Blvd exit. It was a delightful sighting to see on my dreaded drive to my oncologist appointment.

I noticed it a couple of weeks ago and felt the same way. What an amazing sporting event for Hampton Roads. And, more importantly, a prayer for you and your battle - you got this!

Hopefully those ticket holders will show up when VT isn't playing at home OR will donate those other tickets to local cub scouts, youth groups, boys and girls clubs etc.

If sales are up by 650, but VT bought 2000 of those, that could indicate real ODU fan tickets purchased are down by as much as 1350. That’s a serious issue if true.

Not to mention a bit overestimated.

I'm just glad VT is now sponsoring about 10% of ODU's football ticket revenues--LOL. They need to keep paying ODU for all that prosperity we gave them when we didn't start football in 1989. As far as I'm concerned, they owe us 28 more years of revenue boost.

ODU said season ticket sales to first time buyers are up to 1500 tickets this year. MrBB assumes every single one of those tickets are VT fans.

Personally, I find it a bit disingenuous to assume that zero ODU fans finally bought in with VT coming to town and a new stadium on the horizon.

RE: ODU Football Season Tickets
Just to clarify...We have sold around 1650 season tickets to new customers so far for the 2018 season, our highest total since starting the program in 2009. I'm sure some of those 1650 season seats are VT fans making sure they have a ticket for Sept 22nd, but they are in the minority of who is buying season tickets, certainly not 1500+. My guess is the 1500-2000 tickets that you heard about VT using are the single-game tickets included in the game contract. Those are not season tickets and we have to provide a visiting team allotment of up to 1,000 seats for each game. Most schools do not take all their tickets, VT will. We provide more to VT, per the contract, than we do for a G5 or FCS team. Same thing happened last season with UNC.

For perspective, we sold 1500+ season tickets to new customers last season and practically all of those were to ODU fans. Hard to tell the allegiances of a buyer but I doubt many UNC fans or other schools were buying up our season tickets last year.

I would lose my mind if we somehow manage to get a win and will pay a visit to Dr Nelson(For those who don't know he is a VT grad who is a professor at ODU and he used to bring up tech's game before his class every Monday when i took his class) for a toast.

Thanks for the additional information. You might want to add how many Season tickets were not renewed this year and must all of those were ODU fans. Also, I suspect after a 5-7 season, I would suspect that not many new ODU fans are buying season tickets. I know many VT fans that bought season tickets just to get a ticket to the game and that is over above our visiting team allotment (1K). It could be another 1500 above the 1K allotment. I suspect the number of VT fans attending the game will be many more than 2500 and we will see many more empty seats for the other home games.

The lid would blow off if we beat VT.
