On Tuesday, Sam, a student at Georgetown University, described to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) how President Donald Trump's tax cut “crumbs” have impacted his life.
Ahead of the legislation's passage, Pelosi criticized the GOP tax reform package for providing too many benefits for wealthy people while only giving “crumbs” to the middle class.
During a town hall at Georgetown, Sam reminded Pelosi of her “crumbs” comment and then provided the congresswoman with a look into the life of an “average” American.
“As the son of small business owners, I know that it's helped my parents hire more employees,” he told her. “It's helped us pay off our mortgage, helped put me through college.”
He added that on a larger scale, the economy is growing, and wages are rising. Then, he asked if she would still consider the tax plan's effects on average Americans like himself and his family “crumbs.”
Pelosi thanked him for his question and acknowledged that “there are some benefits that some are feeling a particular way.” However, she defended her comment on the basis that the top one percent of people are feeling 83 percent of the benefits.
She called the tax bill a “dark cloud” on America's future and a “bad deal for the American people.”
