The need for financial austerity bought him another year, it is the only excuse for keeping him around at this point. I doubt that NIU can afford to buy him out

Sadly it’s the same deal with Carey.

NIU will not be a young team next year and they also will not be inexperienced

Oh, oh! Well, then, unless people all of a sudden realize the real reason for the team's perennial mediocrity, we will have to start now to come up with the list of excuses for next season.

You are a man of great wisdom and vision (even if the sun is in your eyes)! As the person coming up with the first excuse of the season, I will have a special prize waiting for you when I see you at the Convo (unless, of course, the sun is in my eyes).

Monty's answer to Conference road losses.

The travel to the Eastern time zone has an affect on our 1st half play.
If only we could play teams on the road in our time zone we would have different results.

Another great excuse! Although your prize will not be a nice as NIU007's, you will also get a prize! Okay, I know you want to know what it is, so I will tell you. It is a cold wiener from the Convo concessions!! And you won't have as many condiments as NIU007, and they may be a bit old. NIU007's wiener will be nice and warn, nestled in a moist bun, and enveloped in fresh condiments. That's his reward for being the first.

Can I have some cold hot chocolate to go with it? And maybe some overly salty popcorn? I'm drooling already.

6’3 shooting guard from Novi, Michigan, Trenton Hankerson signs with NIU

Currently the Huskies have one spot left unless someone else leaves. They still need a point guard and I believe a bigger center/forward than Jaylen Key or Lacy James.

RE: NIU Basketball New Players
Huskies will get 20 wins and get over the 500 MAC record. They will only play two non D1 schools. Reasons why I believe this: They will only have 3 or 4 guys that haven’t played D1 college basketball, They will have 4 or 5 double figure scorers and mostly because they finally will have many guys that can make a 3 pointer, look for them to make 8 or 9 a game and take around 20 a game. Last year they made 5 a game 8-9 would make a big difference in wins. They also will win more than one road game while remaining solid at home.

richie is a real interesting prospect. sort of a point forward type who also shoots well from range. versatile guy if the coach uses him well.

hankerson is a late bloomer who may have only had the NIU D1 offer. not a great talent but might grow into a solid role player. has some fire.

what happened to jalen key?

Pono, what do you mean what happened to Jaylen Key? He was out last year with a shoulder injury.

8/20 on threes a game would put them at 40% on 3PT% for the season. Only 5% of teams shot that well this past season.

NIU Basketball New Players
This is a team that does not shoot the 3 well, does not share the ball well, and has the same coach as the past 7 years. Nothing suggests to me that they will win 20 games this year.

RE: NIU Basketball New Players
20 attempts is jut a number to get over. Making 8-9 is all that matters. This team is being constructed with the goal of making more threes. So far the incoming guys, Justin Lee, Austin Richie and Trenton Hankerson can make threes. Current guys: German, Daow, Key, Bradley, Hayes, Thorpe, Tommy can make a three here or there. No one has to be great at it! It’s all about the cumulative number.

That's very fair, something big has to change in how this team plays together, and we just haven't had any indication that it will.

Look for German to be good for 2-3, 3pters alone. This will be the first year that Monty has had a veteran group combined with numerous guys capable of making a 3, I predict it will make a tremendous difference in wins and if it doesn’t you fire the coach and move on.

I agree with the scenario of firing the coach, but I do not see it happening while STF is here. It's sad, but I see the administration viewing men's basketball the same way the fans do - at least all the ones who don't show up. Those who attend the games obviously care, but there are extremely few of those.
