Coming in at 129 is UTEP. Uncle Matt obviously does not see any improvement for the Miners over last year. At 128 is Texas State. Welcome aboard, Sun Belt. Our second C-USA team into the mix at a heady 127 is Rice, as the Owls are expected to struggle again this year. Just for something different, the MAC joins the early entrants with Kent State in at 126. So this is what we have for now.

126. Kent State
127. Rice
128. Texas State
129. UTEP

I'm going to hold off on conference projections for a while, but I will be trying to give my daily updates as Uncle Matt shares his gridiron genius. Hmm -- two of the bottom four. Oh well.

My bold prediction is that UTEP will be improved, more competitive, win more than 1 game and be on it's way to becoming a solid program in the years to come. You heard it here first and actually, this may be the only place you will hear it.

Whatever. That's like saying FAU will have a winning FB season someday and their fans will start talking trash on this board. Dream on.
Once we have a winning football season and if our fans start talking trash please remember MinerInWisconsin and myself. We were the two main UTEP fans on here through a 0-12 football season and a 10 win basketball season.

RE: Orlando Sentinel Countdown -- 2018
A couple of things on the results of the poll so far, some things that stand out to me.

UMass and FIU shouldn't even be on this list yet. They should at minimum be top 100. I expect FIU to take a step back this year, but they will be further along than they were before Butch Davis came around.

UMass is returning an excellent offense that should make some waves. Bill Connelly goes into great detail on his preview.

Tulane... Tulane will finish in the top half of the AAC this year, mark my words. Fritz is a winner, and he's in year 3 of his rebuild of Tulane and it looks like this year is the year he starts to reap the results. I also doubt Tulsa finishes that low but I have no argument I can make in their defense until they find a replacement for their unstoppable QB/WR combo of 2016.

Most egregious of all, how have we gone 20 picks without Kansas showing up once? Every team mentioned in my post would blow the doors off of Kansas.

I wish Murschel would put more effort into these rankings...

I refuse to believe there are 21+ teams better than a Kansas team that would have better results suiting up their basketball team to play football

Kansas is a sad story. How can such a major school a member of a major conference be so consistently so bad?

One difference, Tulane planned to punt on third down because their QB was getting killed by the pass rush on previous third downs...

Toss the 64.80 out for the independents and use the 67.20 projected average from the AAC for them.

Shift the other G5s averages down and add in the SBC average.
AAC 69.17
MAC 70.83
C-USA 74.50
MWC 74.58

Why is the MAC average so high after their bowl game choking? The MACtion should be closer to SBC if not below.

Here are the revised projections through the Kansas selection at 108. I think I have them right now, and if not, I'm sure Dawg will let me know.

Dawg, thanks for keeping me straight. I truly appreciate your help.
