I don't understand Toledo still being out there. As I read up on them for our bowl game last year I noticed they had a lot of seniors on their lines as well as a great senior RB and one of the best G5 QBs who was drafted. They must have had a heck of a recruiting class.
sincerely,
Rocketman's Daddy

Rockets were pretty banged up by the end of the year. Lost the #1 WR, both starting OG's, and 3 of the 4 top DE's for the season. And to top it off the remaining DE's was suspended for the first half of the Bowl game. This year, the Rockets have added an OT transfer that started 13 games for Florida State, RB and QB transfers from the SEC/Big Ten, and high profile JUCO's. Red shirted some very good players last year. The 2018 Signing Class had two players that were upgraded to 4 stars just prior to signing day.
It also featured an Elite 11 QB Finalist. One of two ESPN 300 players signed by G5 schools. Overall Toledo is a bigger, faster team this year with more depth. If you look over the past 7 seasons, the Rocket Offense hasn't varied much in point production per game with 4 different QB's. Last season was only the 3rd highest scoring avg in the past 5 seasons. Should be greatly improved on Defense in 2018 with the Offense putting 35-40+ points a game.

UCF will see a big drop. For whatever reason, people tend to think programs that win 12+ games out of the blue will be just as good with a new coaching staff. WMU certainly wasn't, and I don't expect the new guy to be anywhere near as good as Scott Frost.

FAU has key guys they have to replace, but should still be pretty high on the list with Kiffin at the helm.

Troy is sort of a wildcard right now having to replace Silvers and Chunn. I would put Troy ahead of Toledo and Marshall, not sure about the rest.

The reason people are high on UCF is because the team returns so many players from an undefeated team especially on offense which was near unstoppable last season. About the only unknown about the team this year is the coaching staff.

People are high on FAU for a similar reason. The unknown with FAU is that their main losses were on the OL which is such a critical position in football. They have talented replacements but experience matters alot. FAU’s defense should be really, really good.

With Marshall in at 40, C-USA slips a little more securely into the No. 4 position among the G5 conferences. I have not run any numbers, but I now suspect fourth is indeed where C-USA will be when the count down is complete. Here's your update.

AAC 76.17
MWC 78.25
MAC 80.58
C-USA 82.08
SBC 92.10

BIG-12 43.80
SEC 45.14
B1G 46.79
ACC 53.79
PAC-12 56.33

IND 68.20

7/18/2018

Includes Marshall at 40

RE: Orlando Sentinel Countdown -- 2018
Im surprised the Sentinel has us that high. For what ever reason (Prob 90% UCF grads) they like to take a shot at us. But Marshall does have 18-22 starters back. The 4 starters we lose are QB Chase Litton, TE Ryan Yurchek, DB/CB Rodney Allen and S CJ Reavis.

If 2 of the 3 of K Robert Lefevre, K/P Shane McDonough and K Justin Rohrwasser can fill Karre Vedvik spot as kicker and punter we should be a good special teams unit. And if QB Isiah Green or Alex Thomas can come in this fall and one of them separate from the other and pick up on Tim Cramsey's play book early we shouldn't have a drop off, plus I think both Green and Thomas are more of a duel threat that Litton ever was.

RE: Orlando Sentinel Countdown -- 2018
I suspect most of the remaining G5 will fall in the 30 - 39 range. Still a lot of solid P5 teams left hard to see Toledo, Memphis, Troy, etc. getting ranked above most of the remaining P5s.

RE: Orlando Sentinel Countdown -- 2018
FAU would need to be ranked about 18 spots ahead of Toledo for C-USA to finish ahead of the MAC in the conference average rankings.
