In fact, he didn't even beat lightly regarded challenger Mike Kennedy at the GOP convention. Kennedy had 50.88 percent of the vote and Romney had 49.12. They'll now face each other in a June runoff election to determine who runs in the November election. I guess it's possible Romney does better when the general public gets to vote, as compared to party convention delegates? But it's still a pretty humiliating start to his Senate goals. I have no faith whatsoever that Utah could actually elect a Democrat in November so it's going to end up being either Romney or Kennedy to succeed the retiring Orrin Hatch.

The only problem is that the delegates are more conservatives than regular people. If the LDS Church gives an informal endorsement he will win easily in the primary. But at least that carpetbagging sob has to earn it.

until term limits are installed and lobbyist influence is severely reduced (and I'm hardly holding my breath), you can continue to kiss the senate goodbye relative to getting anything worthwhile accomplished......

I agree but for all the negative things we could say about Romney, I have to admit that he is at a point in life where the lobbyists can not offer him anything he doesn’t already have. As a Senator from Utah, he will be free to vote his conscience (such as it is) and call ‘em like he sees ‘em. I think most people in Utah probably approve of that.

Romney will win the Primary in a landslide and (sadly) the general election. BTW, I love the GOP's new plan of blocking the people from voting in their primaries. A sitting Congressman in Colorado (a FAR FAR FAR right winger) just got yanked off the primary ballot for violating some BS intraparty rule. In Virginia, GOP nominating conventions have largely destroyed the party, but helping move the VA GOP so far right that all the centrists have become Democrats.

Eventually, you need to win general elections with voters.
