Super Cool for her. Quite impressive! And doing it as a married woman. I thought......ah nevermind.

Does anyone know when the Memphis Softball team became a sport? It was a club when I was in school (Grad 2005).

2006.

I'm not sure what (if anything) was dropped on the men's side of the AD to add softball.

We have one NCAA appearance (2011) and hopefully 2018 will add another to the program.

From a regulatory standpoint, there wouldn't have been anything dropped for men, to add softball for women. That was one of the purposes of Title IX - equity in opportunities. The decisions faced were either drop a men's sport or add a women's sport to balance it. We may have added softball to balance baseball. But there were amendments to Title IX right around that time. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

From a budget standpoint, the money had to come from somewhere. So, yeah, not sure where the funding was found.

Okay, then in that vein, I don't know if something else was added along with softball or not.

Baseball has been an AD sport for a very long time here, if not one of the original sports.

There were years given to get sports balanced out. Not sure if anything changed or we just finally got it worked out.

There was also the dynamic of conference realignment and the need to offer more sports.
