Seahawks look to complete non-conference sweep of longtime rivals
WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNCW continues its eight-game homestand on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. start against longtime rival Campbell.
The Seahawks are coming off a series win against Towson that moved them into a tie for third in the CAA with a 7-5 record. Campbell, meanwhile, continued to dominate the Big South, sweeping Longwood to improve to 15-3 in the league.
UNCW topped Campbell, 8-3, back on Mar. 27 in the first game of the home-and-home series in Buies Creek.
THINGS TO KNOW
- UNCW ends red-shirt sophomore Blake Deatherage to the mound for this second start of the season and second against the Camels … Campbell senior Wes Noble will get the starting nod
- UNCW earned a series win over Towson last weekend in Colonial Athletic Association play with a 5-1 win on Sunday … The Seahawks are tied with Delaware and Elon for third in the league at 7-5
- Austin Warren earned the win against Towson in the series finale to run his record to 5-0 … The Seahawk bullpen has combined for 17 wins this season, tying NC State for most in the nation
- Mason Berne extended his consecutive games reached base safely to 33 games, doing so in all three games of the Towson series … His streak ranks sixth all-time at UNCW … It also is the 12th longest current streak in the NCAA
- UNCW's Ryan Jeffers leads or is tied for the CAA lead in batting average (.365), home runs (11), doubles (16), RBI's (37), total bases (99), on base average (.491) and slugging percentage (.723) … His 16 doubles ranks him 16th nationally and his slugging percentage is ninth at the Division I level
- The Seahawk pitching staff ranks 15th nationally in ERA (3.16) and hits allowed per nine innings (7.46) … It also owns a 1.25 WHIP, ranking 22nd
- UNCW closes out the eight-game homestand this weekend, when it host Elon for three games … The series opens on Friday with a 6 p.m. start … On Saturday, the Seahawks will wear special jerseys which will be auctioned off during the game with all proceeds going to the Miracle League of Wilmington
