Two cool things you'll notice if you blow this pic up on a desktop screen: the "Welcome to S.B. Ballard Stadium/Home of the Monarchs" signage above the press box and the brick facade inside the stadium.

There are a lot of nice looking details with these renderings

Like those fans that brought actual picnic tables to their tailgate. =]

I noticed that, and then wondered why SB Ballard's tailgate trailer wasn't in the rendering, lol.

When I took my son to Charlotte, the extra legroom in their stadium was noticeable and much appreciated. At least 9" extrae will do wonders for fan comfort.

I have to say that after all the speculation over the past several months, I'm pretty happy with what they've come up with and can't wait to see it in person when its done.

Based on that picture, the scoreboard will have to be re-positioned or I doubt you will be able to see if from the east side.

naw I lived on the top floor at the Hague downtown for a few years. No ocean view but an awesome view of fireworks shows during summer.

A few dozen more stories and it'd be the tallest building in Norfolk by a significant margin.

RE: Major Stadium Announcement
I have to say it's modest but they got it right. First with no special state appropriation or increase in student fees it may be the most fiscally responsible stadium in Virginia.

Second it is a good foundation for future expansion which was the entire point of the rebuild.

It's an attractive design while preserving the historic character. It increases fan comfort considerably. No chair backs but bleachers with backs and an extra 9" of leg room doesn't compare to the cramped benches that are currently there.

Internal food vendors, internal bathrooms, new sound system, expanded press box.

Yes this is what we need. It shows a strong commitment to moving in the right direction. Everything after this like a scoreboard can be tackled incrementally. This redesign gives us a strong foundation to do so.

Looks like the space on the west side that the study had for possible classroom / storage etc... could still become a thing. Should turn that into offices or a workout area.

Hah ya I was mostly joking. I'm on 14 and can't see ocean from town center.

I can see ships coming into bay and the cranes in Portsmouth terminal tho. Pretty much all of Hampton roads but no ocean.

One thing I'm looking forward to is the sound. It looks like it's going to really hold sound even better now. Plus 10 ft closer on each sideline is going to really make it feel intimidating. I want the place to be a true home field advantage.

I agree, but not sure this has enough bling. No fancy scoreboard, no expanded swanky locker room, no decked out team room, no restaurant/club area to wine and dine parents (though I guess the game day building can suffice). This has to compete with ECU, Liberty, GSU, FAU.

I guess the press release didn't say anything, but I have to imagine the locker rooms will be much better. It's a full rebuild, the existing locker rooms won't be there, right?

The Populous presentation had the new locker room under the New North side stands (Phase 2). I believe they'll be using the existing Locker room until then. Meanwhile, the visitors get new digs 03-banghead
