It doesn't look like the runner at second got tagged. But he must have, I don't think they would miss that.

I coached youth baseball for 10 years, in all comers' league (not select), so there was no floor on skill level or aptitude.

The Gattis blunder is as bad as any I can remember. I can say with certainty that neither of my boys did something that gross when they were 6 or 7 years old.

Not sure why the first base coach wasn't fired. How hard is it to say "on the bag?" as he runs through first base.

Since the batter is allowed to run through first base, there was nothing amiss until Gattis finished his run and started to turn toward the infield instead of back to first base. At that point, the coach clearly started doing something. But I can see why it didn't occur to him to do anything before that point, since everything was routinely until then.

Technically it looks like Gattis was actually called out for being inside the baseline -- after trotting through the infield and onto the grass -- before he was tagged, so if it's any consolation I'm not sure this qualifies as a "triple play"

If you want to swap youth baseball stories, I have a few. The best in my opinion is the time one of my players stole second base. he carried it with him to third.
