XFL or Alliance of American Football - Want to see Birmingham get a team?
Birmingham has had its fair share of Spring football teams. Do you want to see one of the new leagues in town? What are your predictions?

Initially I thought the AAF might have the greater likelihood of success, but being as they have less than a year, haven't announced cities, only have one coach, no players, etc. I don't see this league playing a single game. Probably better to hope Birmingham gets another XFL team.

The AAF by far has the best chance of success. One of their owners is McMahon's former XFL partner. The AAF has a television contract. The AAF has better contacts throughout professional football. All of this gives the AAF credibility while the lack of same of McMahon, the WWE, and the previous iteration of the XFL point to the AAF as having the better chance of (long-term) success. Also, some well-known, heavy-hitters are involved with the AAF. It wouldn't surprise me if the new XFL never gets off the ground...

I'm all for Birmingham getting a team. Something else to do and creates another good use of the new stadium in the spring.

One or the other as long as they don't compete with Tues, Thurs, or Fri Barons' games.

Isn't there something in the city charter that dictates that Birmingham is contractually obligated to get involved in every fly by night football league

The only minor league sports Bham should put any investment into is the Barons, because of the history and the great gameday experience, and the new USL team because of the remote possibility of Bham someday getting an MLS club.

I saw a billboard on University near 24th St that said something about a spring fb league startingJune w/ a team called Birmingham Bullets IIRC. I'll see if that is still up & what it said.

Could be the new league started by locals bham bullies football league. Four teams Southside saints, East side eagles, Westside wranglers, and northsiide northern people. Ages 18-35 I wouldn't waste my time watching Larry get off from AutoZone to throw the pigskin around for the saints.

I'll go ahead and throw in the ubiquitous - but for Bear Bryant Birmingham has the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing at Legion Field since 1976, Legion Field gets replaced in the 1990's, Birmingham has a good bowl, and maybe some conference's championship game, kickoff games, etc.

Now, who knows how that would play into Alabama still playing home games in Birmingham and the formation of UAB football.

RE: XFL or Alliance of American Football - Want to see Birmingham get a team?
The B'ham teams in the various spring FB leagues generally did well individually until people got discouraged by leagues failing around them. (It was suggested by one wit that the World League should put a team in the Philippines so they could call them the Manila Folders) Even the NFL connected league that included US and European teams failed along with a CFL venture.

Any minor spring league FB team has a chance to succeed in FB crazy Alabama, but as before, the league is the questionable factor. There is not a surplus of cities that desperate for football as a year round sport.

AAF announced for Atlanta, playing in GSU's stadium. I think that has to seal Birmingham not getting a team, at least for AAF. That's a bummer. People seem more excited about AAF than XFL.
