Agreed. I guarantee you the employee's at Starbucks (and most companies anymore) already go through some form of diversity training on an annual basis.

TBH, its all a dog and pony show. It is near impossible to change somebody's heart and mind- you certainly aren't going to do it by having someone lecture you about how you overtly and covertly racist you are. If anything it often furthers the divide as it is just pisses some people off.

I stopped going to Starbucks because it was overpriced for what you got. I still get gift cards for them and when I do I go and get whole bean, but that's it now.

When I used to work in uptown Charlotte me and some coworkers would always get a drink after lunch. These two middle aged heavyset women would always be holding court at the same table running what looked like a Farmville convention with some other shady looking characters.

EVERY DAY! EVERY SINGLE DAY!

When we asked the employees, including the manager, what was up with that they told us that they rarely if ever buy anything and they literally sit there on their computers and phones playing Farmville from open till late in the evening. They wanted to do something about them but the regional manager said Starbucks was supposed to be "inviting" for everyone.

For the exact same reasons you had the local homeless camped out in there too. Being uptown and in the bottom floor of a Bank of America building, the space in there wasn't much more than four standard work cubicles. It got............aromatic............in there quite often.

When I lived in the University area I spotted these same two ladies doing the same thing at the local Starbucks. Asked the guy working behind the counter about it and he said they were there every Saturday and Sunday.

They really loved Farmville.

and the worse thing of this is that they are making the manager be the bad guy for following company policy....

This, plus not all of the managers are the same. Some might enforce the policy, while others might not. Just because a policy isnt enforce in one location, doesnt mean that its not enforced in others.

I couldn't tell from the video but if the place was crowded with paying customers and these guys were just camping out without buying then it's the managers job to ask them to leave. If the place is fairly empty it can be up to the managers discretion but I still say something seems off about this situation.

Why take a stand against Starbucks other than the fact they are the biggest coffee shop in the US and a well known name? Why not McDonalds?

Starbucks is known for letting people hang around and not buy anything. It's like B&N in that way. What the manager did was use discretion and it went sour on her.

I don't think Starbucks needs to take some kind of big company stand like this, just visit its policies. If the policies are good enough, just chalk it up to a bad mistake.

Because:

1. It happened in a Starbucks.
2. McDonalds is blessed with lower expectations than Waffle House. Can't take a stand against a company that claims no standards in the first place.

This is a case where everybody involved acted like children. No common sense, no manners, a break down of civility.
