Hypothetical Trade: Draft Pick+ for Kawhi Leonard
Chris Herrington just brought up the possibility of the Grizzlies trading the lottery pick for Kawhi Leonard and I thought it was very interesting. He is only locked up for 18-19 w/ a player option for 19/20.

The only way I would want this to happen is with some kind of sign and trade scenario. I would imagine they would want more than just the top 3 pick as well, but man would a Mike, Kawhi, Marc combo be fun.

I wouldn't give up a 1st round pick for Kawhi. Maybe after last season but he's damaged goods now.

RE: Hypothetical Trade: Draft Pick+ for Kawhi Leonard
Don't think the NBA views Kawhi as damaged goods. Kawhi was cleared by the Spurs medical staff two months ago. Not saying Kawhi and his camp has handled this well, but NBA teams would jump at an opportunity for a top 5 player.

Our top 3 pick wouldn't be near enough to get him. And we would have to match salaries. Spurs liked JMyke, had him in their camp, but didn't have a roster spot. Kawhi's salary in '18-'19 is $20M, so Spurs would have to take back more salary.

It appears Kawhi abandons his teammates for unstated reasons. I would not want him on the Griz unless there is compelling justification for his absence.

You'd only get Kawhi for one year. There is a 0% chance he would take the player option for 2019/2020. Guys like Kawhi Leonard never sign with small market teams in free agency except under rare circumstances, e.g. LeBron signed with Cleveland because he's from Akron.

For that reason, Memphis needs to take the pick and hope that player turns into a franchise changing player.

He would demand more than just our pick IMO. Also, I think he could sign the super max with SAS and then get moved. Not sure how we could make the money work if that happens.

Lets get real... If we are offered an all star, and it takes away from our front office another chance to screw up a draft, take the all star.

Normally I would agree, but Kawhi would be a 1 year rental and the Grizz don't need that. If there was some guarantee that Kawhi would sign here then yes you absolutely try to make it happen.

Actually their trades have been pretty good for the last decade. Drafts and FA signings are a different story.

this would be my trade too. Bring back Evans and a starting group with Conley, Evans, Gasol and Leonard would be good.

we're used to damaged goods (see Gasol, Conley, Parsons). At least Leonard has all NBA talent. A better risk with a smaller cap hit than the names I just mentioned.

MEMPH1S was joking, Harvard. Spurs would obviously laugh us off the phone with an offer like that.

Don't think Grizz will get into this game, but our offer would start with our pick, JMyke and Dillon, and that wouldn't be enough.
