dragon - who do you think is a better team for Rice to face. WKU or LaTech?

Rice easily beat LA Tech over the weekend. Don't know anything about WKU, but don't see them as a threat. I suppose it "looks better" beating a higher seed...

Saw on the conference board that #4 FAU has the #2 ranked singles player in the country. Looks like from the bracket we would only get to meet them in the final.

The player from FAU is undefeated this year (I think) but Lindsey Hodge had a match point against her last year in the second set at No. 1 singles in the C-USA tournament..Lindsey was leading 3-1 in the 3rd set when Savannah clinched the conference title for us and the match was discontinued.

That was a different player from FIU, ranked #39 at the time of the match. Lindsay was #110. The #2 ranked player this year is actually Aliona Bolsova (FAU). She is a transfer from Oklahoma State.

ODU beat UTEP. UTEP only had 5 players and then another one retired.

WKU's entire roster is made up of foreign players (Bolivia, Japan, Greece, Paraguay, Finland, Belarus), so 10 of the 12 singles players currently in action are from outside the US. This is today's college tennis, ladies and gentlemen.

1st set: Rice is up a break or more on 5/6 courts.

Somebody with tennis knowledge explain to me the ordering of the players from 1 to 6. Is this supposed to be an internal ranking, best to least? Can it be altered from match to match, to take advantage of match ups?

RE: 2018 CUSA Women's Tennis Championship
It is basically an internal ranking.

I'm not sure there is an actual rule against it, but it is definitely frowned upon to move players up or down more than one slot to take advantage of match-ups (referred to generally as "stacking"). It happens in the Big 12 alot.

When Natalie B. was our #1 player, we saw it all the time when an opposing coach would basically conclude "we can't beat Rice's No. 1 under any circumstances, so let's move our No 1 to No. 2 or No. 3 and try to win at that slot". It often didn't work because Dominique H. (our then No. 2) wouldn't lose to the opposing team's No. 1 anyway.

Our freshmen are very strong at their positions. Anna B. started the year at No. 6 but has worked her way up. Mickey H. also has tremendous potential to move up.

It will be an interesting weekend.

Yes, ranking of 1 - 6 is best (#1) to 6th best. I'm pretty sure that altering the lineup to take advantage of match-ups is not kosher, but I am unsure if there is a formal mechanism to prevent that, or whether it is a gentlemen's/gentlewomen's agreement.

Owls won all six first sets in singles ... and are up by at least one break in the second sets of three matches (#3, #4 & #5).

FIU is already up 3-0 over Charlotte ... is up 6-3, 5-0 in the second set of the #2 match.
