UCDavis adds two women’s sports to get to 16 women’s teams. Their female enrollment is getting more slanted, so they had to add women’s sports, but theoretically could pave the way for FBS. Equestrian hasn’t had an addition for seemingly years.

UCDavis needs time to get to the MWC level so it needs a starter FBS league.

UCDavis to the WAC along with Poly and Sac St and Southland schools. NMSU would be jumping for joy.

The Great Northern and new WAC would cross schedule each other and help with the transition.

Seattle and UVU to the depleted Big Sky.

It never made sense for the stable Big West to go to 11 unless two are leaving. Well, two will leave, the northernmost.

Long term goal is Pac-12, I assume?

Why would this pave the way for FBS? Didn't they already have enough women's teams for that?

That is such a typical response. Poly and UCDavis will not be leaving until 2020, which is the same season that UCSD and Bake will be added.

So many sports will have to remain in the Big West, so UCDavis had to tell the BWC that it was leaving with its main sports so the Big West wasn’t left hanging and UCDavis actually begins to elevate football. It can’t stay in the Big West forever if it has bigger desires. But it needs to be cautious because the Big West could throw a big monkey wrench in its plans if it didn’t cooperate with UCDavis.

Cal Poly and UCDavis told the Big West of their leaving plans so not to have a bad divorce. It has to be amicable. The WAC will not be the terminal conference for either school.

UCDavis has potential, but it needs to move to elevate its programs. Staying in the Big West means their satisfied with mediocre sports. UCDavis has been accepting stadium expansion donations going back nearly ten years.

Don’t see UC Davis going FBS for quite some time yet. First they should be more competitive in the Big Sky. Also, don’t know what kind of support they would get, they have trouble getting 10k for a game and the stadium is under 15k.

As said a thousand times before, FCS is JV to potential fans near NFL teams. FBS is the only thing that would get them in, as well as potential semiannual games vs Stanford, Cal, USC etc.

Both UCDavis and Cal Poly have plans to expand. Two years is easily enough time to get to 20k seats.

Meanwhile, Holt Arena in Pocatello leaks like a sieve. Shouldn’t even be called a dome now. No plans to refurbish or replace it, because ISU alums care more about BYU or Utah than their own school. Pathetic fan support, just like NAU. They can stay in a conference together and then maybe they win against each other.

He must not have received the memo that Cal Poly and UC Davis are leaving. Why would they vote on Bakersfield and UCSD if their departure was so imminent in 2020? Why not just abstain, or simply announce they are out the door?

Commissioner Farrell also said while the expectation is to go forward with 11 members, he's not opposed to a 12th school if it is the right one. They could be within CA or be from a near-by state. You always keep an eye out for an opportunity.

Amazing that six months previous, UCSD was voted down and Bakersfield didn’t even get consideration since the school is considered such a slug, but brings in much more fan support than any Big West school as Bake isn’t uppity. Dennis Farrell six months earlier said it didn’t have a compelling reason to expand, but now he does? Something has changed.

So the Big West suddenly got a major new TV contract because San Diegans willl all be glued to their TVs in excitement over UCSD? Why didn’t Sacramento St at least get an offer rather than Bake? Sac can actually play in Golden 1 Center now and is close to betting a new on campus arena after discussing it for the past 25 years. Sac St provides a travel partner for UCDavis, so the travel budget would have gone down for the lowly Big West financials. But Sac St may have plans with Cal Poly and UCDavis to skeedaddle too, so the Big West could not get them.

The Big West Presidents must be really abysmal in long term planning as well as in other issues. Those schools wouldn’t voluntarily divide the NCAA pot even further as they need every penny. San Diego St and Boise only got in as they offered big $’s, and in Boise St’s case, annual payments.
