Exclamation Should BTN be on basic cable in Cincinnati?
The B1G news yesterday and today has been about Comcast dropping BTN from its basic, in-state rates plan in New York, DC and Virginia. That leads me to my next question: should it be considered "basic cable" in Cincinnati? I realize it's the state of Ohio, but do people there really have an Ohio State of mind?

What do you think? There's a poll...

If the BTN is no longer on every basic cable subscription in New York, does that mean Rutgers is now entirely useless? 03-lmfao

If anything CBS Sports should be on basic cable in Cincinnati. UC plays about 1/3 of their football and basketball games on the network.

Yes, but they were useless before - no one in the NY metro area, east of the Hudson or north of Bergen county gives a rat's rear end about Rutgers or its sports programs. As a matter of fact I'm not sure how many NJ residents give a damn. 02-13-banana

I'm all for that!

Actually, I've wondered if CBS/CBS Sports Network might make a play for the AAC contract given the Aresco connection. Their production is excellent but I'm not sure they could touch ESPN for eyeballs. But perhaps it would be part of a move to expand the CBS footprint. Then again, a featured game or two on CBS Network each week for football/basketball, most of the rest on CBS SN and the next tier to Fox Regional networks might work. Along with a big pile of cash of course.

The Fox Sports Regional Networks were acquired by ESPN's parent Disney. Apparently the deal is expected to be consummated in 2019. I think at the minimum, we will see some UC content moved from ESPN 3 or ESPN News moved to Fox Sports Ohio to capture a wider audience statewide that are able to watch it over the air.

Great minds think alike! Though I posted far later than you.

Rutgers will prove to be a giant error on the part of the B10, hopefully.

You must not get out much. I live in the suburbs and there are plenty of UC fans. I work in Dayton and a growing number of UC fans here as well. UC is a national brand.

Wait, what? FSO is now an over the air broadcast network? What channel do I tune in the Greater Cincinnati area?

Comcast isn't a provider in the NY Metro area anyway.

RE: Should BTN be on basic cable in Cincinnati?
Who cares what cable companies choose to include in their basic cable packages? Given Cincinnati's close proximity to 5 Big Ten schools there is not much mystery as to why it is included in their basic tier.

Who still wants to pay for cable anyhow?

I'd like to see this scenario play out, the B1G kicks Rutgers out and then goes and adds KU or another B12 team. Then the B12 either needs UC, or a Tex or OU get frustrated and move off to the SEC, starting the dominos.

Rutgers makes no sense whatsoever in the B1G, terrible fit for both the conference and that school (I know they are getting paid well). Midwest B1G country kids don't want to go to Rutgers, and NE kids don't want to have to fly to cow country every week do get their brains beat in.

Any movement at all is good movement at this point.

the suburbs you say, well i certainly don't get out as much as you. i'm talking about uc football. not uc in general though even uc basketball is marginalized nowadays. a telling sign is that people know xavier is in cincinnati. but i'm not complaining. far from it. this is our current hand and you underestimate the appeal of osu in a city of losers. by losers i mean the obvious and for the people who desperately cling to a winner to provide them with maximum sport's satisfaction when that's missing the point entirely. you're in the city, player. follow suit

if uc overall were a national brand we'd be in the big 12 or acc by now. uc's not a national brand. it's a step above temple

xavier is from Norwood. So, I guess people still don’t know where they are from. BYU is national brand and they are not in the B12 or ACC. When I say national brand, where ever I travel in this country people see my C Paw and immediately recognize and want to talk UC. You are typical of most Cincinnatians. The we will never be great so why aspire to anything crowd.

It’s alright to thump your chest once in awhile.

Was at a fiber festival in Ann Arbor today (please don't ask why). Was wearing a UC shirt under my coat, and a gentleman saw the C-Paw logo barely visible underneath and stopped me to say "Go Bearcats!" It is not an unusual occurrence when I am outside of Ohio.
