Clark looks the part as a potential small-ball four man after making massive strides over the course of his career at Cincinnati, particularly as a three-point shooter and passable perimeter decision-maker. He’s undersized and would be classically defined as a tweener, but his defensive know-how and ability to defend both wings and bigger post players certainly helps in that department. Not many players can say they averaged a block and a steal per game in all four years of their college career. He plays with energy and smarts, and while his performance was a bit up and down at Portsmouth, he remains a player teams are seriously interested in and a potential second-round selection. And if Clark can’t make it as an NBA role player, there should be plenty of lucrative opportunities waiting for him overseas.

I am almost positive Gary Clark won't get drafted but it wouldn't surprise me to see him having a Jason Maxiell type career in the league if he finds himself on an NBA roster at some point. That kid just flat out helps teams win, just needs a chance.

Speaking of Maxiell, I love him but what is it that NBA teams saw in him that garnered a first round pick that they don't see in Gary. The measurables are similar, both undersized PFs. Maxiell has more a mean streak than Gary but defensive productivity is similar with Gary being an overall more rounded offensive and defensive player. Maybe I'm just suffering from recency bias.

Max was an NBA caliber athlete and was much stronger than Gary. I too think there's a chance in the current NBA that Clark's all around game gets him on a roster but I also see why Max was a first round pick and Gary is likely going to be an undrafted free agent.

Max was a man child. Their physical measurables aren't the same. Max has like a freakish 7-5 wing span and was a solid 260-270, with a bunch of explosiveness going after the rim or rebounds. Just different players, Gary probably beats him with intangibles and passing, but they don't match up physically.

Also...about 10 years worth of complete change in how the game is played in the NBA. They value highly athletic players who can defend up or down a position and who can shoot well from outside over guys who rebound and play post defense, because those are traits that come around much more often with cheap/non-draftees.
Actually starting to think Gary Clark might get drafted in second round and end up with a 2 way contract (making 200-300K on the bench / playing 30-40 games in the NBA and a full G League schedule).
The Hawks (with 4 NBA draft picks) brought Clark in for a workout recently, as did the Timberwolves, Spurs, Knicks, and Celtics (from what I have seen online). Would love to see Evans and Clark picked by same team.
Best Case scenario IMHO (also my second favorite team behind Pistons)
#18 Spurs - Evans #49 Spurs - Clark
Then...
#23 Pacers - Evans #50 Pacers - Clark
#20 Twolves - Evans #48 Twolves - Clark
#26 76ers - Evans #39 76ers - Clark
#27 Celtics - Evans #56 Celtics - Clark
#28 Warriors - Evans #60 Warriors - Clark
Just want to see both end up with good franchises. A JE3 would've come in really handy for GS last night to play defense when Klay got in foul trouble. Spurs is another one I would like to see. Boston just has too many guys I think he could get lost in the shuffle there.
Gary does a lot of the same things that Dreymon Green does well. His ability to handle, pass, and shoot as a versatile forward is valuable. The key for him to be that kind of player is going to be is he athletic enough and can he add enough strength.

Gary Clark is such a Spurs player now that I actually think about it, that it would shock me if they don't pick him up.

Trying to make me a Spurs fan overnight. I already love Pop. I'd be all in on the Spurs in that scenario. DO IT!
Clark is a great rebounder and dirty-work specialist who plays bigger than his size, embracing his role as a defensive cog while also finding ways to expand his offense over four years at Cincinnati. He averaged at least one block and one steal per game in each of those seasons, a remarkable feat, and turned himself into a legitimate threat from three-point range. It may be enough for him to find an NBA home — he doesn’t have massive upside, but knows exactly who he is and has the athletic ability to keep up with a faster pace of play. Clark is an interesting second-round candidate.
