RE: Purdue, Isaac Haas sued for distribution of chlamydia
It's actually herpes. Chlymadia and gonorrhea are both bacterial infections and fully treatable with a dose of azithromycin and clindamycin respectively. :) Herpes is a viral infection, and like varicella (chickenpox/shingles) likes to hang out in the body and never clears.

Yes, but .... just because something can clear doesn't mean you didn't suffer while you had it. If someone negligently infected you with gonorrhea, I'd say that's grounds for legal compensation as well even if you did get it cured.

The fact that it got cured mitigates the damage you suffered, doesn't eliminate it.

Or you could insist your partner uses a condom. But no, lets open the door for litigation for stds from consensual sex acts.
I can imagine the tv ads now. Bad sex, you could be eligible for compensation. Call the Big Banger for a free consultation.

I find it hard to believe he was treated for chlamydia and wasn't tested for other STDs. That puts a huge burden of proof on her. She would have to prove she didn't have sex with anyone since the last time she tested clean.

You obviously haven't been out of Baton Rouge long enough to have forgotten that we are the ambulance-chaser capitol of the world.

That said, first, condoms don't stop all STDs - herpes for example. Second, if you know you have an STD and you don't tell your partner beforehand, and they then get it from you, to me that's an act that merits legal punishment. I don't see how that's not wrong in a way that calls for legal relief.

No, It’s herpes....Like Ron Mexico, he gave her the herps but never told her he had it. It’s the gift that keeps on giving; luggage for life. He probably dumped her after their encounter in 2017 and that’s when she came foward with the claim that he gave her the herps.
Alyissa Chambers is suing Haas 1 Million in a Civil Case for giving her “an incurable disease”, Herpes. Haas is suing Purdue and the health clinic for telling him was clean before engaging in sex with Ms Chambers in June, 2017. 2 weeks later he was given a diagnosis for Herpes. Ms Milsaps is also named as another student Mr Haas infected with herpes. Several other students are known to have been given Herpes by Mr Haas around campus, but so far they haven’t come foward to sue.
This was in Wednesday’s USA Today.

He distributed herpes. He faces a 1 Million dollar lawsuit for distributing an incurable disease. The condition you mentioned is quite curable with penicillin. Herpes is not.

Thread title updated to reflect change of disease.

With more women claiming to have been infected, Haas is in deep doo-doo.

I suppose it would be bad enough obtaining herpes, but then distribution of said disease? Wow...

Apparently, Haas said he didn’t think she’d sue that he gave her herpes because in doing so she’d be forced to say publicly that she has herpes.

According to the Center for Disease Control Quo, the strain of gonorrhea going around today is virtually untouchable by antibiotics. Like staff it has developed a strain that actually feeds on some antibiotics and is resistant to most of the rest. So these things should not be treated lightly (no pun intended).

Oh, so you have this strain of gonorrhea. Sorry about that man, or I woudn't have mentioned it.

There are extreme strains of most every virulence, but day to day gonorrhea is quite treatable by a single dose of ceftriaxone. At least, that has generally been the case in the patients I have treated. Now if they present with PID, that's a different thing, but we're talking about the outpatient setting.

Back to the point though, as I figured, the initial article had the wrong diagnosis. I'm not sure there's a lawyer that would take on a suit with a fully, easily curable disease. As far as the amended circumstance goes, it'll be interesting to see what happens. I can't imagine someone being awarded a large some of money for a herpes transmission unless they were predisposed to it becoming wildly deciminated (ie they were immunocompromised). There are plenty of viral illnesses which stay with the host for life, and honestly, in an immunocompotent host HSV is probably one of the least troublesome ones. In most people it rarely flares and is easily treatable (not curable). In some people in never flares, and if it flares often, it's generally easy to suppress. Idk, I'd be more concerned about a flare of varicella than herpes honestly... Permanent severe unrelenting nerve pain? No thank you. Anyways, from a purely litiginous view, I'm interested to see how this turns out. From a medical point of view, always use protection and try not to be promiscuous. Herpes, G/C, trich; those are the relatively small players. HIV, to a degree syphillis, and of course unintended pregnancies, those are the BIG risks. My advice, just don't do it. Isn't worth the risk.
