Majerle's big season appears to be 2019-20. Oscar Frayer will be a senior then, Lever, Milstead, and Blumbergs will be a juniors and Finke will be a sophomore. Add Carlos Johnson and whatever Majerle also signs the next two seasons and GCU should be pretty strong. Of course other WAC programs will also be keeping pace. Seattle U. with their additions looks to be tough for the foreseeable future.

GCU adds an assistant coach (former Utah State assistant Louis Wilson) and a grad transfer (Michael Finke from Illinois) over the last two days.

Is this the replacement for the guy who left for South Dakota?

RE: WAC commits 2018-19
With the addition of Michael Finke, GCU now has its starting frontlines. The only places the Lopes can improve now is by signing a (veteran) Grad transfer or JC transfer point guards and/or shooting guard. GCU will be young in the back court. Right now, I would say GCU's starting five is as follows...
PG: Damari Milstead 6'2 Soph
SG: Tim Finke 6'6 Frosh
SF: Oscar Frayer 6'7 Junior
PF: Michael Finke 6'10 Grad
C: Alessandro Lever 6'10 Soph

Yes. 20+ years college coaching experience at D1 and D2 levels, primarily in the Mountain West region (UT, CO, ID). Seems that he has worn every hat (Assistant, Associate HC, HC) in programs ranging from RMAC to Big West and Mountain West. Supposed to be a strong defensive-minded coach who works great with guards, and has some recruiting chops. Time will tell how big an impact he does or doesn't make from the #2 seat, but seems like a good hire for now.

I think T. Finke would have to show something pretty special to crack Majerle's starting 5 from Day 1. He might earn his way there by conference play, but we are probably much more likely to see Gerard Martin start in that spot than younger Finke to begin the season.

Finke had offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, Illinois, Vanderbilt and Oregon. He decided on GCU. This was a huge pickup and Majerle knows it. Majerle said he expects him to start, although nothing is promised. There is no way this kid is not starting. This recruit could lead to other quality recruits and he is better than Martin.

Oh, there are definitely ways he is not starting. The same way that the eventual WAC FOY spent the first month of the season coming off the bench. Younger Finke is a high skill, high IQ player, but it doesn't mean he will be better in the things that matter most to the guy setting the starting lineups. Will Finke have a better grasp of the sets they run than Martin come November? Will Finke be a better on and off-ball defender than Martin by Game 1? Will Finke be more trusted and respected than Martin, or earn a greater measure of loyalty from Majerle during his first few months in the program?
I'm not saying there is no way Finke begins 2018-19 as a starter, and I would certainly hope he cracks the lineup by season's end. What i am saying is that anyone more than casually familiar with this team and Coach Majerle, in particular, will not be shocked if Martin starts over Finke to begin the season. Again, if it is Finke over Martin on Day 1, it's because he has earned it by showing something special by way of skill, work ethic, gasp of the offense and/or defense, etc.

Add Northwestern transfer Isiah Brown to the GCU's list. Sit one, play two. Not sure about 2018-19, but 2019-20 season looking nice for GCU! Haha

I think if you go back you will see that was not an announcement. It had a question mark. He seemed to just be toying with the havocs. An article was released the next day that he was still deciding between GCU and NMSU. The official announcement was released today and JJ chose GCU over NMSU.

In reality, Rhymes flashed his cards (his intent) a few weeks ago with his intagram. There was only a small hope that he might still be interested in NMSU. Hopefully, Jans had already changed his recruiting focus well before today's "official" decision by Rhymes.

Jans moved on in recruiting after he saw the Instagram post by Rhymes.

NMSU was also recruiting 6'6 JUCO Marlon Taylor; who was ranked #17 in the JC Top 100 just ahead of Rhymes. However, he chose LSU a few days ago.
Currently, NMSU has 6'8 JUCO forward Iván Aurrecoechea coming into LC for a visit. He is ranked #10 in the JC Top 100. He doesn't play the same position as Rhymes but Aurrecoechea would fill a need for NMSU. He is a top 5 rebounder (11.5 rpg) in JC ball.
