Hillbilly Jim was just sitting on the turnbuckle doing nothing. Surely he could have done something to intervene???? What a travesty!!!!

RE: WWE Discussion
Backlash was an absolute joke.

The WWE really needs to respect its viewers or someday they will turn on them. If there were ANY competition, I think the WWE would lose. Their writing is horrible and they have abandoned the fans in favor of what they decide. How else would Roman headline four straight Mania's and be the headliner on three straight PPVs?!! Fans were chanting "This is Boring", "Rusev Day" and "Beat The Traffic" during that match. The camera caught some people leaving, but quickly moved angle to where they couldn't be seen again. It did catch people pouring out of the stands the second it was over.

Most times there are either dark matches or something happens and nobody cared enough to stay.

Cannot believe the FTC allowed the acquisition of all it's major competitors. Maybe they thought that being entertainment that it is not big business and should not have been monitored.

The WWE does have competition . Ring of Honor has been in existence since 2002 . In 2011 , ROH was purchased by Sinclair Broadcasting. SBGI is the largest operator of broadcast TV stations in America. ROH wrestling is seen on every SBGI station across America, plus many regional sports networks .

If the FCC allows SBGI to buy the Tribune Company , the new company will have over 102 stations plus WGN .

ROH runs 6 to 10 events a month in the USA , Canada , the United Kingdom and Japan . They are partners with NJPW , CMLL and Rev Pro . ROH is the second largest promtion in North Amercia . SBGI is a very profitable public corporation that is beyond McMahon's reach.

Also Impact . Lucha Underground and Major League have weekly cable TV shows. However , only ROH has a touring business. Plus NJWP has hired Kevin Kelly and Don Callis to provide English commentary on NJPW World .

Although the WWE is by far still the largest wrestling company in the world , they do have competition . There is no monopoly .

IMOO , NXT ' s sole purpose is to destroy ROH . NJPW and CMLL group . The WWE has raided these companies for alot of talent the past few years. Bryan Danielson , CM Punk , Kevin Steen El Generico , Tyler Black . Samoa Joe , AJ Styles , Claudio Castagnoli , Chris Hero , Tomasso Ciampa, Roderick Strong , Adam Cole , Kyle O ' Reilly , Bobby Fish , War Machine , Lio Rush and Donovan Dijack are all ROH guys.

Despite the raid ROH business is better than ever . There is just too much talent in the marketplace. The WWE cannot afford to sign and pay every one. Talent like Cody Rhodes , The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega , Marty Scrull , Jay Lethal , The Briscoes Brothers and Zach Sabre , JR are earning more money outside the WWE than most of the WWE locker room .

Those piss hole territories were never gonna be competition for the wwe and the only way wcw could beat them was to overspend well above their means.

The AWA and Crockett were the WWF 's competition . The AWA failed because Verne refuse to change with the times. Crockett failed because Dusty and Jimmy Crockett blew millions of dollars on their lavish lifestyles.

WCW was just shut down by Turner's new owners. If Ted had not sold out WCW would have remained in business. Ted had a fortune off of wrestling.

Vince just hung in there and survived while his enemies died of self inflicted wounds.

TNA did fail because they overspent and tried to copy the WWE in ring formula.

There is hope for the future. Sinclair , Anthem and NJPW are running wrestling promotions with the sole purpose of making money . There are not chasing McMahon . So there is hope for the business. If you don't like the WWE check out NJPW World or ROHWrestling.com . There are plenty of choices in the marketplace.

Standard oil did not own all the gas stations and refineries but they owned enough to control the industry to the point that no one could compete with them.

Likewise the WWE may have smaller companies who are in the same business. But they control enough of the industry that no one could compete with them for talent.

They not only operate Raw and Smackdown they also operate the developmental NXT. They lose on average $16 million a year on NXT but operate it in order to tie up talent.

It is the classic definition of a monopoly.

Low ball base salary for a male performer is $200,000 a year. With over half the male performers making over $500,000 guaranteed and a number making in excess of a million a year. With PPV bonuses and merchandising all male performers make at least $500,000.

The average ROH salary is less than $70,000.

ROH is owned Sinclair and they could afford to pay their wrestlers more than 70k but they dont and its not wwe's fault. If WWE did not buy buy WCW no one was going to there was only 1 group (Eric Bischoff) looking to buy it and when Time Warner/AOL pulled the tv time the investors backed out.
