Haven’t a couple of the best pro rugby and Aussie rules players attempted a cross to the NFL? Might be hard to catch up to guys who have played for 12+ years. I can only think of a few guys who picked it up late from another sport... SMU had that guy that blocked kicks who was a T&F athlete. Dline seems like a good place to use large athletes who won’t have to learn as much of the playbook.

Nate Ebner plays for the Patriots and is a rugby guy orginally.

Margus Hunt.

He still plays for the Indy Colts actually.

Wonder if we’ll reach out to Ben Miles (son of Les) who announced he’s transferring from Nebraska. He’s a fullback and Scott Frost isn’t going to use one. Had offers from BC, mich st, Purdue, navy out of HS.

seems like Oregon had a 6' 9" guy at DE three or four yrs ago, from Germany or some such. Alabama beat them in the NC game iirc.

What does them losing to Alabama have to do with the tall player?

No one suggested a miracle silver bullet here

???????
Nothing. I wasn't suggesting there was. I'm all for taking the road less traveled; in fact we have to think outside the box, given our circumstances.

I was just pointing out that this guy helped them to the NC game. The loss was simply added info, as long as I was on the subject. I would love to have had this guy on our team.

I want to say one of his daughters went to either UT or A&M as a regular student. I could see him ending up in Texas somewhere too. The head coaches at both UTSA and Texas A&M are from the Les Miles coaching tree.

ETA - also I should add that the Murphy kid I mentioned a few pages back is going to transfer to UCLA.

Some in-state tight ends we're recruiting include Asher Alberding of Clear Lake (mentioned him already, his dad played football at Rice), Jack Bradley of Bishop Lynch in Dallas (his mom is an assistant women's basketball coach at SMU and his dad played football at UT), Ben Koch of Austin High (6-6, 240), Lawal Oyedemi of Sugar Land Clements, and Keshon Williams of Longview Pine Tree. Any of them would be huge gets.

There's a 3* 2019 QB from Austin (Chase Griffin) with offers from Ivies who was accepted into Harvard's Summer Business Academy very recently. Really hope the staff goes after him if he fits what they're looking for in a QB. Brilliant kids from Texas are the ones we need to be getting.

I wonder if Bradley is related to Super Bill Bradley, who played at UT in the late 60's. He went on to play safety for the Eagles. He was a qb from Palestine and was the top player in Texas as a hi school senior. Grandfather maybe?

Jack does not appear to be related to Super Bill.

This Burnt Orange Nation article about 2019 recruits does not mention Super Bill. It says Jack's father is Steve Bradley, who was a tight end out of Arlington's Sam Houston High School.

This 2015 "Where Are They Now" Philadelphia Eagles article (cache copy) said Super Bill had recently retired as Lamar University's defensive coordinator, lives in the hill country between San Antonio & Austin and "plans to be part of a three-man booth with former Eagles offensive tackle Jerry Sisemore, analyzing the University of Texas games for a website in development tentatively called T Plus. He’s also working with Rivals.com and Football University."

Quote:Bradley and his wife, Susan, ... have two adult children: Matthew and Carissa.

Matthew, 28, suffered a brain injury during a 2009 altercation near where he was attending college in Sacramento, which required three immediate surgeries. He has since received several stem cell injections.

“He’s lost a lot of his movement,” Bradley said. “He’s totally with it, he’s a genius upstairs, but he lost all his motor skills when they had to take out a certain percentage of his cerebellum to keep him alive.

“So we take care of Matthew, who is a wonderful human being. He’s rehabbing every day to try to walk. That adds a different dynamic to your family. You’ve got to understand where you came from and where you’re going.”

Matthew, whose goal is to finish the work for his college degree in business online as he gets more movement, has a 501c3 approved foundation – The Matthew Wright Foundation – which is in development. Its mission statement is “Guiding Your Journey Through Brain Injury.”

Carissa, 25, is a graduate of San Diego State with a degree in child development. She will complete her master's from Arizona State in May with a degree in applied behavior analysis. She is also currently working with autistic children.

For those who don't know about super Bill, here's a nice summary of his amazing career ... "He may well be the most interesting man in the world."

Thanks Mike. I actually worked out in Austin in summer of 1972 with Bradley and a bunch of other athletes who had pro aspirations. The legendary Horn trainer Frank Medina was putting us thru the grind.

RE: [split] Mike Bloomgren's 2nd Rice recruiting class
This one may have to go into the 1st recruiting class thread - I'm a little unclear about when he may come to Rice but Blaze Alldredge from Pierce College in California (a JUCO) just committed to Rice. He's a 6-3, 225 LB originally from Kissimmee, FL. He's definitely a freshman at Pierce but what I'm not sure about is whether he's going to graduate there and transfer into Rice in the fall as a sophomore (I think that's the case). He could also be announcing his commitment as a 2019 signee.
