You do realize he originally wanted a two for one with our one home game being in BJCC with an equal split at the gate and it took a lot of negotiating to get what we got from him. It almost did not happen because of that. The deal they gave middle Tennessee Was their one home game was in Nashville.

I’ll be surprised if he agrees to anything equal or a true H&H with us again.

And it didn’t happen the way he wanted. He at least was willing to play us, which is more than we can say for a lot of coaches these days.

I’m 100% okay with the deal we got at this point. If auburn wants a 2 for 1 next time around(a true 2 for 1) then i hope we aren’t too proud to Just dismiss it. We have an uphill battle to ever get in position to make the NCAA tournament as an at large, and declining good games is a way to guarantee it won’t ever happen.

If they want a two for one with us we should tell them to shove it up their rear end. That’s how we got the better deal the last time. If we do a two for one it won’t be Auburn. It will be a UNC or A team like that.

And play Alabama A&M. And then complain that our attendance sucks. At this point if that’s what it took to continue the series I’m all for it.

You don’t have to recruit this state. Our coaches do and they will do what is best for the program. You play auburn straight up. You play a rare now days two for one with a traditional power and maybe be a buy game to a Duke. We are not getting an at large in CUSA no matter who we play or the record. MTSU has demonstrated that. Our best bet is for football to get us in the AAC and to win CUSA in basketball. Stop bitching about the schedule and support the team. Hell when we do play good opponents our attendance still sucks. Go look it up.

RE: Rothstein | Auburn and South Alabama to begin multiyear series
MTSU should have gotten in this past year, but in actuality they didn’t have great OOC wins and it cost them. We can get an at large in this conference, but it’s going to require strong OOC play. If we beat USA, Troy, and 7 swac teams, we have sealed our fate. At that point i believe we could go 29-1 and not get an at large.

What was the attendance when Auburn came to Bartow? You don’t call that number good?

I support the team, but I’m not driving an hour and a half two ways to watch UAB play grambling. If that makes me a bad fan, so be it. I want to watch good games that involve UAB, it isn’t too much to ask. I found my way down when we had the SFA’s on the schedule. I don’t believe we can can’t find more of them.

If our coaches think playing a ****** schedule is best for the team and program, that’s their prerogative. If they want to get fans from a driveable distance into the building they are going to have to give us something worth watching.

With so many new and young players this year, I think a weaker schedule may be best. It was not the right thing last year, but this year, it will take time for them to come together, and getting their brains beat in is not productive

We have the pillars of a good schedule already. Auburn is projected as a top 10 team. Memphis will be much better and we may meet up against Villanova in the tournament. SWAC like teams will be on the schedule whether you like it or not. Every UAB coach has scheduled them, and every other team in the country plays lesser competition at home in the non conference unless of course you are the fodder.

I’m not crying about playing SWAC opponents once or twice, I’m crying if we schedule a swac team over a two for one with Auburn.

And i agree, the schedule next year has a good foundation at the moment. I hope we can fill it out with some decent games.

I agree...Pearl never said he wouldn't play UAB home and home...his actual quote was, "I won't schedule that conference (C-USA) home and home"...we all know what C-USA is and there's very little we can do about it right now...and the truth is Pearl doesn't need UAB on the schedule...he schedules great as it is...he just took 7.5 players (mostly guards) and won the SEC Championship...when he finally has a full deck of players Auburn will be kicking *ss in every direction...at the end of the day we need that game...I'd vote for the same deal we just had or a 2 for 1 if it came down to it...this is no longer our father's Auburn basketball program

Maybe. I've heard that some federal prisons have guys that can really ball.

Yes let's encourage our staff to schedule even softer than the past.. Good players want to go out and play better competition. It's only some of our fans that are afraid of getting their butts kicked. You want UAB to be relevant again, don't be afraid to play somebody. You can't beat good teams if you don't play good teams.

Not sure how many times it has to be stated.

UAB isn't going to the NCAA tournament as an at large no matter what the schedule looks like.

Our only hope is winning the conference tournament.

We should hope football propels us into another conference which would once again give us opportunities for at large bids.

I don't disagree with your point. I certainly think the committee is unfair in their selection process. (If there is an actual process). My point, and a few realistic others is that playing these 250+rpi teams and demanding h&h from quality opponents has and will continue to result in low attendance. People won't take their family to see Miles College and if they do they can all ride with Attalla. If there is a free ticket then Memphis Blazer can tag along.

That is simply not true. ODU was all but locked in a few years ago until they screwed the pooch in conference play. MTSU had a great season last year, but at the end of the day what was their best win?

First of all if you think I will ban you for arguing with me maybe you are the problem, not me because that just not the case. I have yet to find anyone that says you cannot criticize things but I take a dim view to personal attacks. I have also not found anyone herehaply with or ready accept mediocrity but if you want to put words in folks mouths again that is on you.

I will also ask you one time and one time only to PM me or another mod about moderation issues Randy

If you think it’s the opponents go look at the attendance for the better opponents. Outside of a couple outlier games that brought opponenents fans it doesn’t seem to mater.

How many true non power programs received at large bids last year?

1 or 2 instances of "almost getting another CUSA team in" does not compare to the several instances of mid level P5 schools getting in.

RE: Rothstein | Auburn and South Alabama to begin multiyear series
Those teams were not that close to getting in. When you are relegated to a three seed in the NIT it tells how far away you really were.

MWC is adding Gonzaga to Elevate their league. We better put butts in the seats for basketball and football and hope Clark delivers us.

Oh and before someone puts words in my mouth again I think you do your best to try and schedule like you will get an at large bid. Who knows? Maybe you have that magical season and everything falls into place and you get that shot at the rare non power at large.

Maybe there are two next year with Gonzaga helping that league?

All for a tougher schedule but I know the reality of our situation. I also don’t think you whore your program out like a SWAC school either. We need home games and we need to recruit.

I also find it funny that someone mentioned we should play regional teams and Chattanooga was mentioned. We played them and they had a bad year and then criticize the staff for playing Chattanooga. That gave me a chuckle. The truth is the Chattanooga game was part of the tourney we played in. We received two home games the tourney folks chose Chattanooga and Jacksonville.

If our schedule wasn’t crap we most certainly could be an at large if we win
