It is supposed to put Jans salary pretty much in line with what Menzies made before he left NMSU; and substantially more than what Weir made at NMSU as head coach. Weir wanted a big payday after his first successful season but the financial environment then was not what it is now. We slept on Weir underestimating the depths of his ambition and he bolted for UNM at a blink of the eye. Moccia realizes NMSU can't afford to let Jans get away with out a fight.

I believe Menzies base salary was 290,000, the 400,000-500,000 for Jans is base salary.

Menzies base salary when he left was about $290,000, but with bonuses, he ended up with over $400,000. Jans base salary will be between 400,000-500,000, and that isn't counting bonuses.

Glad to read this. The WAC needs to keep their quality coaches.

Moccia's statement to Rudi....

Former NMSU head coach Marvin Menzies did have a retention bonus in his contract every year that he stayed with the Aggies and made a base salary of $290,000 in his final season of 2015-16 before taking the UNLV head coaching job. With bonuses, Menzies made around $440,000 in his final season. Menzies makes a reported $700,000 in guaranteed money per season at UNLV.

Moccia doesn't have a exact number of where they think they can get Jans' salary to, but said he would love to get Jans' salary between $400,000 and $500,000 in guaranteed salaries and bonuses, similar to what Menzies had at NMSU. That kind of salary is still lower than NMSU's competition, New Mexico and UTEP.
