UConn and Yale did have some good fun with each other way back when. Many old programs show our mascot getting tortured by Yalies.

First RU game I attended, Thanksgiving night in 1976 at Giants Stadium:

Win number 11 in an undefeated season.

Can't believe more hasn't been written about them. IMO, they had just as much right as Pitt in playing for a national title. (Even though they played several Ivy League Schools)

Absolutely ridiculous that the Scarlet Knights were denied their right.

That said, if they had played in the Independence Bowl - and had beaten McNeese State - I wonder if at least one organization would have named them national champions - and to put the thought further, would they have accepted/declared themselves national champions ?

Not sure if this is a game program or just a pamphlet, but interesting nonetheless:

Apparently they were crowned Nat'l champs by the Dun Herm poll and it is Rutgers' only claimed National title to this day.

I've been collecting since the early 70s when I started going regularly. my dad first bought season tickets in '65 & I went a lot and still have a few programs from then but really started paying attention around '73. I've missed 3 home games since then - 1) I was really sick & my mom wouldn't let me out of the house, 2) out of town as a relative was dying and 3) my father in laws funeral.

I stand corrected - and thankfully so since that means Rutgers got at least a little bit of their earned due.

Wonder if they ever raised a banner or at least put up a sign at their stadium ?

Looking through my old collection and I found a few UCF programs from Daunte Culpeppers freshman year (1995) as well as a few Orlando Predators programs from 1993. One of the ads in the Predators game program is one from a local strip club with the QB posing with the, ahem, ladies and a coupon for no cover charge....geez. Arena Football back in those days....back when the league had a future....gotta love it...

that was the one time Memphis has sold a home game. the promoters paid what at the time was a HUGE amount of money to move that game to Orlando. A bad decision and a true beatdown on the field. embarrassing

It was basically an attempt by FSU to gain another home game, which, for them, is about par for the course. FSU and UF have been doing that garbage for a while.

At least Miami will come to play USF and UCF at their place.

They would have been laughed at...they played a very weak schedule with a mix of mid majors and Ivy League type teams.

They had a good team in 1976 but we're an obvious step below the Top teams that season.

I'll dig it up. From the 1993 "War on I-4" game vs. the T.B. Storm. A game in which the Storm owner and players nearly all left their bench to fight Predator fans.

The Preds/Storm rivalry made the USF/UCF rivalry look like a piker.

(BTW, Kurt Warner made one appearance in Orlando when he was in the AFL; Preds fans poured beer on his wife, Brenda. Yeah, it was a rowdy crowd to say the least. Those days, alas, are over though....)

You beat me to the punch. While a good team (and the teams coached by Burns were generally good), not NC caliber.
