The top CAA program
I just noticed that in conference JMU has finished or is currently in 1st or 2nd place in six of the ten CAA sponsored sports they compete in. They were 3rd and 4th in two others. They are currently last in baseball but the conference schedule just started. We all know we were seeded 8th in men’s basketball. That is a dominating athletics program.

To top it all off, the Dukes had the best D1 winning percentage last year of any Virginia school. I think they were second the year before. Their winning percentage is higher this season than any previous one so I am thinking they will again be #1 at the end of this year.

Having all of our teams do so well is pretty cool.

Nation, put on your bullet proof jacket. They are coming for you! You know our administration is terrible. Especially, our AD and VP for Sports.

Imagine if our MBB pulled back into the top 3-4. Hopefully another year or two with their respective coaches and both MBB and baseball can climb back near the top of the CAA rankings.

BSKB, I hear you, I also hear Nation, and I get where you are coming from. We kick some tail at JMU. If you will now take a look at my position on each man you mention, I do not come up with abstract disappointments in these two men. I try to give credit where it is due, but also make points about their failures as well.

Do you not believe the two of them totally, completely goofed in JMU's bid back in 2011 when we had to travel to EKY for a playoff game? That was a monumental failure trying to step over a dollar to pick up a dime.

Do you really believe it's in JMU's best interest to be traveling to NSU to play an away football game? Don't say yes simply out of defense of JB, say yes only if you, Gary, really believe it.

The two of them really have done some great things for JMU. CK and the way he has made our infrastructure second to none is definitely a job well done. I know JB get's a lot of grief from all corners of the world and it will wear you down constantly having to answer questions, but that is why some nice cash lines JB's pockets on payday. I'm clearly convinced he is tired. I look at his body language there is little energy remaining.

Feel free to comment, but those are my observations and I feel they are justifiable thoughts. I can give many more examples, but those just popped out of my head.

Not every decision works out. No one bats .1000. I doubt Gary would ever say our administration is right all the time and neither will I. I will say our coaches and student athletes are getting it done the last few years. Men’s basketball and baseball need to get it going but the rest of our programs are among the best in a very good league and that makes me proud.

I don’t see JB or CK as tired at all. They are just getting older like the rest of us. 04-cheers

The Athletic Director at a University like JMU should not be an accountant reporting to the Head of Finance.

The errors in judgment over the years have been horrendous.

Seems like a top overall program due to the strength of our Women's sports.

Uh oh. This is the pink elephant.

It is a nice to have situation on the women’s side and certainly something for the athletic department, teams, and alumni to be proud of. It is for those closely connected to JMU. However it does not move the needle for revenue, donations, engagement, growth, and prestige of the athletic department. Most of the men’s sports don’t move the needle either.
Not trying to upset anyone, as I enjoy the Olympic sports as much as anyone else. I’ve traveled to see baseball for NCAA playoff games, I’ve traveled to see women’s hoops in the tournament. I routinely check scores for Softball, Lacrosse, volleyball, Golf etc , but I am a JMU sports junkie. The Alum in New York City that has never attended games post graduation and has never donated to the Duke Club won’t suddenly start because the field hockey team wins a national title.

FBS football and Men’s basketball are the only two NCAA programs that have the potential to have a big, wide reaching positive impact. JMU is not in the conversation for either.
In order to elevate the status of the athletic department and/or perception of the University you have to be nationally successful in at least one of these two. This is just a statement of captain obvious and not a stance that those 2 sports are the only 2 that JMU should care about.

Priorities #3 through #17 JMU is doing really good. No doubt.
I would gladly exchange poor results in many of those Olympic sports if it meant JMU could break the ice on the national stage for FBS football or especially Men’s hoops.
Give me a final four Men’s Hoops team and I don’t care if the field hockey team goes 0-20.

Just so nobody gets the wrong message... I am PRO women’s sports. I just don’t see them as the drivers for athletic department advancement in today’s NCAA climate. It feels like the cart is ahead of the horse at JMU.

To you, and others perhaps.

Personally, I think JMU's athletic priorities are in exactly the right order. We just need to see much, MUCH better performances from MBB (and BB).
