RE: 2018-19 Roster
Jason really improved his 3 point shooting this year from .293 and 8 makes to .480 and 24 makes. But his averages were still low: 10.8 minutes, 2.8 points, 0.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists. With Bo set at guard, Patrick Good coming on line and the talent that Carlos Curtis, Tray Boyd, Pun Tisdale and Davien Williams are bringing in he would have had a hard time finding minutes. And the Bucs need to bolster the front court.

Hope he finds a place that lets him get some time and develop.

I was starting to think either he or Obi-Rapu would transfer with all the guards we continue to sign. Wouldn't be surprised if Obi-Rapu still does. Hopefully Williams will land in a good spot where he can get playing time.

Obi Rapu is graduating but could be a grad transfer.

Williams was a bit undersized. Williams transfer is yet another hit to APR (a one point out of two point loss) coming on the heels of a two point out of two point loss with Edwards).

RE: 2018-19 Roster
With Williams transferring I can see the need more for another guard. I would still like someone to chime in if the have any info (even if its just a rumor) regarding my questions from earlier this morning.

1. Is there a chance that Karl Overstreet has one more year of eligibility left? Either by getting an extra year granted ala Peter Jurkin or for any other reason? For whatever reason verbal commits still shows Karl as a Junior BTW with one more year of eligibility left.

2. Looks like Mladen is hitting it hard in the weight room from a couple of pics going around I've seen. I think he is extremely self motivated and hear Jeromy is high energy from the word go and a self starter for sure. Anyone think James Harrison's light bulb comes on and stays on for his SR year and can get in the mix this year? He has the size/frame (could always get a little more ripped in the weight room as it appears Mladen is doing). does he have the motor?

3 Any possible front court help on the football roster- ala the kid from UTC last year (J. Phillips)who came on and totally outplayed their highly acclaimed M London.? First name that comes to mind after quick glance at our roster is Olajuwan Pinkelton 6'7" 236 lb. Has the size for sure, played in HS and must have been decent at least as ETSU website said he was twice all-conference and led league in blocked shots. Thoughts?

Many thanks

JC Press article on Tisdale's signing:
http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Basketba...m&lp=1&p=1
“There was a lot of interest from all over the board, from high majors to really good mids like us,” Forbes said. “We were the last one standing and we’re happy and really proud to be. He’s a good kid.”

RE: 2018-19 Roster
Coach Forbes on the radio this morning :

- The roster for next year is getting close to being finalized.

-In speaking of Tisdale, Coach said that they had been recruiting him since the early fall, but the Vincennes coach has a rule against his players signing early. The staff had to stay with him over the long haul. One of the reasons he chose ETSU was so his parents could see him play.

-Boyd was also recruited early, but he just didn't want to sign earlier than he did. He praised his 3 point shooting and size.

-Williams came to Coach Forbes and asked to be released, mainly because of playing time.

-Coach is looking to sign a "big wing" and another post. He said that the wing would be signed first after visits this week. He said that they were looking here and overseas for a post.

-Coach continues to praise Rodriguez, especially his passing. He is excited to see him play.

-He mentioned that he had been to Toronto on a recruiting trip.

-The schedule is in progress. He hopes that it doesn't take as long as last year. He mentioned that one of the problems was Freedom Hall, especially in December. He said that our long road road trip last December was mostly due to scheduling conflicts with Freedom Hall. Interestingly, he said that UNCG has a worse problem than we do, trying to schedule in the Coliseum.

-He doesn't foresee any more departures, though he couldn't say absolutely.

-Mladen has gained 15-20 pounds.

-Hodges has not participated in activities since the final game due to injury. In fact, if we had made it to post season play, he would not have been available.

-When asked he praised Good, though he needs to work on his defense. He feels that Hodges, Rodriguez, Mladen and Good are the core of next season's team.

Tisdale signing leaves 2 spots available with a third possible if the right guy surfaces. Some outstanding talents are on the hook and just need to reel em in. As for your questions:
1. Not certain if Overstreet has another year or not. Doesn’t really matter since he’d be a walk-on and won’t play anyway.
2. Harrison expected to be back and should contribute more. Depends on him and what other bigs come in.
3. No FB players under consideration - as it should be. They’ll be fine in the front court and are certainly not desperate ala Chatt.

Like the news about Mladen. His natural game is the muscle game around the basket, and weight room time should be especially valuable time for him.

It's a little concerning to hear that Bo is still recovering from the season. I think that Preacher or someone else close to the team mentioned that he often was unable to practice last year. He really reminds me of Tommy Hubbard in this, a guy who plays with total abandon and little concern for his body. But that cost Tommy in significant time lost to injury. As I said in another thread: "You worry about [Bo's] ability to maintain his take-no-prisoners style of play without injury." Hope that Bo will find a balance.

Unless I missed it, I didn't hear Myles Rasnick's name mentioned this morning. He's apparently a pretty good player and I assumed that "preferred walk on" might indicate a scholarship at a later time.

Forbes' comment about recruiting in Toronto makes me think he's still intently after Jahbril Price-Noel. Of course, there could be other players from Toronto who they're looking at, but I've seen his name associated a lot with ETSU on Twitter and elsewhere.

All kinds of folks after him now, in addition to the Hogs and all the others we already knew about: BC, Minnesota, La Tech, Drake, more....
He's in a big showcase thing this weekend called "Terrific 24".
Shakur Daniel is also a Southwest Christian guy out of Toronto, but he's a 6'5" guard. Hopefully Armus is saying the right things to his ex-teammates.

RE: 2018-19 Roster
I am sorry to hear of Jason Williams's departure. But indeed, he'll likely have more opportunity elsewhere. He brought some good qualities to the floor, including his improved 3-ball shooting and some nice assists. But he *was* overmatched by some of the larger guards - on both ends. He was a good player, but maybe not at as an elite level as Forbes aims for. I think this past season was his "make-or-break" opportunity at ETSU, and although one wouldn't call it a failure, it clearly wasn't a breakout, either.
And while Forbes said on the radio that Williams asked for his release, that *may* not be the full story. Williams, being a smart guy, could see with all the new guards coming in that his playing time might be cut even further below the 11 minutes he got last year. (He got 9 as a freshman.) I can imagine (*pure* speculation) a conversation going along the lines of: "Coach, uh, what do my odds of PT next year look like, with all these new guards coming in?" And Forbes would have been honest, and maybe somewhat discouraging. And yet not determinative, as "anything can happen". But I can very easily imagine Forbes painting a realistic, but maybe honestly bleak projection of his PT, and then Williams, after thinking it over, then asking for his release. Or maybe that discussion didn't even happen. Maybe Williams could just read the writing on the wall. And I'm guessing Forbes is "relieved"(??), freeing up a place for a more elite performer. Also pure speculation.

I also wonder about Obi-Rapu. Who knows, but his future PT opportunities just can't be that optimistic, unless he's *really* straightened out his J.

As to Mladen gaining 15-20 lbs.......wow. I hope he hasn't lost any speed; he didn't have much to lose. And he was already pretty strong. I think I only remember him losing about 5-10 rebounds all season to a more-muscled competitor. Would hope he can develop more of a 10-12 ft. J.

Like swvabucsfan, I'm concerned about Hodges. That's not good news at all. I mean, the season's been over nearly 2 months now.

Pretty sure Overstreet is done. I mean they already had his senior day going away festivities and all. I know that doesn't preclude a reprise, but it's *got* to be utterly unlikely.

Wholeheartedly agreed.

Mladen could improve dramatically by developing a repertoire of offensive moves near the basket.

I think Obi can turn it around. He was a big scorer in JUCO. He has the size and skill, he just didn’t knock down shots. Hopefully he can turn it around.

In his case, imo, it's about 95+% confidence. He lost it about midway during the season, or maybe slightly before that, even. (Good thing he wasn't trying to play for bartow.) He's got the athleticism, hands, speed, enough defense skills (not top shelf, but not bad), and a quick mind; plus - good court vision (and the ability to make some key assists that come with that). He doesn't have the gunner's mentality that allowed Guyn, Cromer, Man Man, etc., to just keep firing away. He's got to feel it, and find his groove. I think he knows what that groove feels like, but he may have to find it quickly with all the new firepower coming in.

I don't believe he spent time as a juco; pretty sure he played two full seasons at Longwood before transferring here. I think he's a really good kid.

Obi didn't play JUCO basketball. He was a transfer from Longwood University, a DI member of the Big South Conference. Obi Rapu graduates this semester but could return as a graduate student.
