I hope not....

This is nonsense.

Porter is a very good mid major player. Talley is a pretty good player. Fields is a backup in the Big South and had awful numbers at that. MHJ couldnt earn time here.

MHJ and Fields would struggle for playing time behind Caver, Kithcart, Green, Stith, Godwin, Wade. Talley and Stith are a tossup, prolly lean Stith.

I dont remember all the recruiting rankings but Hueitt was a low 3 star. Dont think Talley was highly rated. Fields was a walkon. Dont remember Porter.

Reece is def higher than all of them. Want to say Green was similar to thme (maybe higher?). Goodwin/MhJ were close.

Of course Fields was a backup this season. I believe he played behind a returning senior. Even at that he got a lot of minutes and I noticed that he was the one in the game at the end during their championship run.

His numbers certainly weren't awful in the Conference Tournament game.

His numbers certainly weren't awful in the first round of the NCAA Tournament game - a game that Caver is not likely to ever participate in. In those two tournament games that I have mentioned here, I believe Fields was a combined 7-7 from 3, which reminds me ... what was ODU from 3 in their conference tournament game against WKU?

Lastly ...... Kithcart hasn't played a game for ODU yet. Wade hasn't played a game for ODU yet. Green's numbers versus Hueitts are as follows -

Green
22 min/game
5.1 points/game
2.1 rebounds/game
1.0 turnovers/game
39% shooting
33% shooting - 3 pointers

Hueitt
6 min/game
2.1 points/game
2.1 rebounds/game
0.2 turnovers/game
41% shooting
47% shooting - 3 pointers

Stats don't tell the whole story, I realize that. Still when comparing the stats above, Green hasn't done anything special and his game needs a lot of work.

EDIT: I looked up Fields's stats from this season for comparison to the two players above -

Fields
22 min/game
6.3 points/game
2.1 rebounds/game
1.2 turnovers/game
2.2 assists/game
39% shooting
36% shooting - 3 pointers
78% shooting - foul shots

Also worth noting ... Over the last 6 games of the season Fields was a combined 12 for 17 shooting 3 point shots. Those 6 games included the Big South Conference championship game, the First Four NCAA Tournament game, and Radford's 2nd NCAA Tournament game which was against national champion Villanova. Strangely enough, his "awful numbers" were better than Green's numbers. I'm not surprised.

You are really using per game stats for MHJ? You know he only took 19 3-pointers... those stats are misleading as hell. How do they stack up defensively? There are two sides of the ball to play

Of course I realize that. I stated as much in the post when I said, "Stats don't tell the whole story. I realize that". As far as them being "misleading as hell", how do you know that those shooting stats would not be similar if he had shot 3 or 4 times that number of 3-pointers? You don't, and neither do I.

It has been widely speculated that the defensive side of the court is what kept Hueitt from getting more minutes. I'm not about to say that Hueitt is as good or better than Xavier defensively. I would say that Xavier is not as good defensively as many on here would have everyone believe by the way they tout him so frequently.

How do you view Xavier's stats? Good? Average?

Green played over MhJ for a reason, he was a better player. (Havigg an extra year prolly helped).

Fields had a full year here and a full year in a terrible conference. He hasnt been good at all up to this point. Hes just not good enough yet.

I guess, technically, JJ did re-recruit Baker and Taylor.

Talley? Did he graduate from ODU?

In any case, the point stands. Caver is JJ 's first 4 year player.

Green should have played ahead of a true freshman after sitting out a year with the team.

As far as your comment about Fields goes ... Good enough for what??? The mighty ODU teams of late? The mighty ODU team of next season?

Was Green's play this season impressive to you? I cut him some slack because he is a freshman, but some people act like he is going to be the next Kent Bazemore.

He was going to compete next year with BJ, X, and Godwin for minutes at shooting guard (and Caver if he can get the opportunity to play off the ball w/Kithcart/Wade taking point for short spells). So MHJ was probably only going to get a few minutes per game next year (if any). His decision makes sense.

You’re assuming everyone you listed is still here next season.

I think that is a safe assumption. Why would any of the individuals I listed leave? Porter and MHJ’s departures make sense for different reasons.

Agreed - and he has been loyal to the program. I think he is going to be a beast again next year. JJ just needs to add some bigs for him. I wonder if our incoming freshmen bigs are ready for minutes next year. This is a fantastic opportunity for them.

Please expand. Haynes stayed after being granted his release due to Talley being dismissed. What do you think would prevent Porter from following through?

Porter could decide that ODU is the best option next year.

Perhaps it’s pride, but I don’t want him back. He wants what he perceives to be better, I hope he finds it.

Nope, I'd take him back in a heartbeat.... Besides, I like my nose.

Agree, would definitely love to have him back. He has grown a lot with this coaching staff and yes, there is room for improvement but our staff could help him in that department. He will get noticed at ODU as easy as any place else he would go.

If that is the case, we are in big trouble. Caver is a very good floor general, leader and facilitator ,but when he tries to take the game into his own hands, things don't usually go that well.

Maryland has a need for a big man. Would be surprised if he doesn’t accept their offer. The only way he stays is if he is loyal to the program. Chalk him up as gone. Good riddance Porter! Please prove me wrong.

Porter will NOT be back next year. Way too much interest from P5 programs. That is what he wanted and main reason for grad transfer.

This is your wake up call.

Porter isn't coming back, Huett and our "best class in odu history" was once against COMPLETELY OVERRATED BY THE EXACT SAME FANS that do this crap every year and, one last time for the people in the back who just can't figure it out, JJ is a has been coach who has been EXACTLY who I said he would be from day 1.

Knowing is half the battle. I know JJ isn't making the NCAA tourney next year which is why he needs to go now before it's too late. Waiting any longer jeopardizes the program.

The same people who justified Blaines alcoholism as a "cold" are the same people defending the job Jones has done. Clearly you have no standards and I'm embarrassed you find this crap acceptable.
