Outer Banks (NC) Ferries to honor Blackbeard
Some of the Outer Banks (North Carolina, for your landlubbers) ferries are going to fly Blackbeard's flag to mark the 300th anniversary of his death, off the coast of North Carolina.

I wonder if anyone will protest?

Ferries to fly Blackbeard's flag

My sig is actually Blackbeard's flag... which I also fly at every ECU tailgate.

I have vacationed there a couple times and love it, one of the neatest places I have been. I think the Blackbeard thing is a great way to celebrate history.

My first engine company was nicknamed "The Pirates" because we often beat the neighboring companies in on calls in their first due, or took calls away from them because we were closer because we were out on the street already returning from another call. One of the Captains of our neighbors was a crusty old fart and was telling a story once about an apartment fire where we beat them in and made a couple saves. When he said "I had a plan all worked out with my crew on what we were going to do when we got there and Engine 12 swooped in like pillaging pirates and stole our glory" the name stuck. We ended up hanging Blackbeard's flag in the apparatus bay.

Kap, I'll bet my story beats your story:

In El Paso we have a joint assistance program with Cd. Juarez (Mexico) Fire Department. One day it seems like all the EP fire trucks near downtown were at a scene and the El Paso mayor asked for assistance from the JFD. Well, the fire truck from Mexico was going bad assed down El Paso's streets to the scene and when they got to the building on fire they just slammed into it and put out the fire from within. The next day El Paso's mayor was so pleased with its conduct that all the downtown merchants chipped in to help the Juarez FD with a monetary donation. When the EP mayor asked the Fire commander from Juarez how he was going to use the money, the Juarez Fire Chief said, "well, meester Mayor the first theeng we will do is fix the brakes on our truck."
